Title of the Project

Epigenetic Risk Assessment of Assisted Reproduction Technologies

Acronym: ERAofART

Budget: 1 182 500,00 Euros

H2020-TWINN-2015

Coordinator: Grazyna E. PtakInstytut Genetyki i Hodowli Zwierzat PAN

TWINNING Project – Participants

POLAND GERMANY ITALY

Leader in Epigenetic Assessment of ART derived

gametes/embryos

Long standing experience in ART - Large animals-

Long-standing experience in Experimental Embryology

- Mouse -

ERA of ART– Scope of the project

to become a European Center of Excellence and Innovationfor Epigenetic Risk Assessment of Assisted Reproduction Technologies

In particular:

• To enhance the expertise of IGHZ PAN staff in ART models production and epigenetic evaluation

• To create a network of excellence with involved partners

• To stimulate to produce high impact factors publications

• To provide high quality scientific consultancy and service for SME

(infertility clinics) and hospital units

Actual conception trends represent a health and social issue

Postponed Parenthood (> 35 years)• 25% women • 45% men

Assisted Reproductive Technologies

• Rapid development • Direct application to human clinic

What happens here Can influence health here

Developmental Origin of Health and Disease - Barker’s Hypothesis -

Actual Conception Trends

Compromised pregnancy and/or difficult parturition

Neurodevelopmental DisordersMetabolic DisordersEpigenetic Defects

Transgenerational effects

Are children born after ART and/or from aged parents at increased risk for adverse health outcomes ?

Human studies

Contradictory or limited to pregnancy outcomes/early childhood

Lack of information due to direct and recent application of invasive protocols

Lessons from animal models

ART may affect embryos and resulting offspring through perturbation of epigenetic programming

1. Exchange of know-how and experience by twinning and networking between IGHZ PAN, UNIWUE and UNITE

2. Organization of 2 conferences, 3 workshop and 1 joint summer school

3. Dissemination and outreach activities

4. Establishment of cooperation with SMEs and industry

5. Creation of international Advisory board

ERA of ART – Activities

Significant improvemet in the overall scientific and innovation capacity of IGHZ PAN

• number and value of EU research grants and projects

• training of research staff

• quality of research (publications in high IF journals)

• Rank of IGHZ PAN due to strengthening of international scientific cooperation

ERA of ART– Impact
