i n t r o d u c t i o n
My name is Sara Glória and I'm Portuguese.
I had completed the degree in architecture at theArchitecture University in Lisbon, 'Faculdade de Arquitecturada Universidade Técnica de Lisboa', in 2004, the second bestarchitectural school in Portugal, and I have 7 years ofexperience of work as an architect.
In this 7 years I had the opportunity of explore andimprove the different phases of the architectural project,since the previous study, with direct contact with the clients inthe office meetings, to discuss the evolution of the projectand all the works involved in it, to the submission of theproject in the City Council, the development of a executionproject with all the necessary construction details in differentscales, from 1/50 to 1/2 and the site meetings with all theentities involved, architects, engineers, the client and theconstruction company.
Since I can remember architecture has been part of mylife, first, when I was 8, with the Lego constructions, where Ibuilt and organized the interior spaces of a house, later, in theteen age, copying projects from architectural Dutchmagazines.
Making architecture has always been a desire, coupled witha passion that was always present. It fascinates me theinfluence that architecture has on people and how it reflectson their lives.
The houses where we live are extremely important in our lives,the spaces we inhabit should reflect who we are, respondingto our needs.
The lack of opportunities to go deep in my knowledge ofarchitecture and explore the potential of our work hasdeclined in my country. The willingness and interest to gofurther leads me to look outside of Portugal for a dynamicworkplace, creative and stable in a city where I can fix, learna new language and a new culture.
I am an independent person, creative, dynamic, withease of learning, good working ability. I enjoy working bothindividually and in team and easily adapt myself to newsituations.
Beyond the architecture I also have a great passion for musicand design, more specifically the watercolor. Last year I hadthe opportunity to organize two independent exhibitions inmy country. Besides that I also practice Pilates and I´m apassionate about life!

This project is located on the slope of a consolidatedand dense mesh in the old village of Carvoeiro. Weproposed the demolition of the existing building andbuild a new house that should fit with the surroundingbuildings.To this end, we proposed on the ground floor anarchitecture that reveals elements of the traditionalAlgarve architecture, and in the first floor we adopt abetter contemporary situation.In the interior we followed the same principles, creatinga harmonious unity.

The building 'The College' is located in a privileged area of theancient city of Silves, next to the Castle and the Cathedral. Inthe backyard of the plot, we found a land that had beenremained almost intact over the years and assumed an asset ina dense city with no free spaces.The project includes the rehabilitation of the existing building,with high architectural value, creating an art gallery at theground floor, facing the main street and five apartments on thefirst floor, accessible from the plot. In this space we alsodeveloped the idea of building a better contemporarysituation, composed by six townhouses and a receptionbuilding.

An old existing house in the village of Ferragudo.The site brings us to the past, to the traditionalPortuguese customs, to an old population thatkeeps in the memory a life around the sea.
The project proposes the demolition of thepre-existence, for its degraded state, and thebuilding of a new volume that would be integratedin the existing urban development, consolidated,with narrow and winding streets.The highlight of a white volume, minimalist,endowed with simplicity, the rupture with thetraditional and the communion with the surroundingbuildings.

The project for this villa, is located in a slope with smallvegetation, near the village of Luz.Our concern was always to adjust the house to thisparticular land situation, trying to reduce the visualimpact of the building.According to that, we proposed a contemporary volumewith a garden roof camouflaging the new look when it'sseen from the top. In the basement we created thegarage, the storage and technical areas. In the first floorwe have the main house, in a very light open space.We took advantage of the view over the sea to have thegreat number of openings, creating an entire glassvolume with water around them.

1st Prize Contest:School EB 2.3l a g o s2 0 0 9 - 2 0 1 1
The competition provided the design of a high school in a
free plot in the city of Lagos, where it's meant to receive
the city's expansion and the creation of a new centrality.
The program included the creation of three volumes, that
should be all connected, integrating each one its specific
function.
The central body of the school is for the administrative
area, staff room and auditorium, a better private area of
the school. The other parallel volumes integrates the
classrooms and workshops. In addition to the school has
also designed a pavilion, for the gimn-sports activities.

This project is about an existing house located by the sea
in the village of Luz at Lagos.
The aim was to enlarge the old house according to the
needs of the new residents. Responding to that, it was
created in the interior, a bedroom in suite and a living
and dinning area, an outdoor leisure area closest to the
suite and a swimming pool near the social area of the
house.

In the course of the project other needs came, like the
modernization of the existing volumes, for which we
proposed to replace the sloping roofs by roof terraces.
We also introduced some new exterior windows and
contemporary finishes. In the interior everything was
replaced, the doors, the kitchen equipment, the
bathroom appliances, the floors, etc.
Fundamentally there was an appreciation of housing,
distributing the balance between the interior and exterior.

An existing house located in a prime area of theAlgarve, with a privileged view over the sea.The house was asking for a huge change: there wasno organization of interior spaces, the walls had verystrange angles, there were no alignments, thematerials applied had a very low quality.Our project proposed the demolition of most part ofthe interior walls and the reorganization of the entirespace. The aim was to adapt the existing house tonew residents, focusing on the functionality of thespaces, in the simplicity, in the lightness of thematerials, the light in the compartments, takingadvantage from the magnificent view that theenvironment has to offer.

An alteration project to an existing
restaurant located in the historic center of
Lagos and because of that, subject to the
approval of IGESPAR.
The intention was to keep the existing
structure of the old restaurant, respecting
the original design but modernizing the
volumes and the construction materials,
creating a better contemporary image.
Inside we sought about a better clean and
functional solution for the kitchen and in
the dining area we reorganized spaces
taking advantage of the new furniture
distribution.

The competition provided the rehabilitation of two old
buildings in the village of Barão de São João, giving them a
new use: a museum open to the public.
Our proposal tried to follow the program of the competition,
but we proposed ourselves to recover the old tavern, just like
it was, given the value of these typical Portuguese spaces
that were lost over time.
This led us to study all the existing furniture and the materials
used, reproducing them.
We did an exhaustive survey of the old buildings and we
proposed to maintain the architecture as it was, adjusting
the new equipment of the museum to the existing situation.

This project was about a building that we wanted integrate in a very peculiar urban shape, marked by the contrast scale ofthe building and the different phases of construction. We found here century-old houses sharing the space with buildings of the 70´sand the 80´s. This led us to a concern about the impact that the new building would have on urban space and to the main goal,the non-worsening of the situation.
Therefore, we proposed a building that has different shapes with different scales, which reflects to the urban shape. Thebuilding consists of two longitudinal bodies that are implanted along and parallel the escarpment, following the existing building,going to "support" on a higher ground facing north, opening to the east, taking advantage of the view. In the lower zone, iscreated a public square, in level and half-buried, and bounded by the building and a retaining wall in the limit of the plot, withaccess from the lowest point through a stair, leading us to the public space.
