Introduction:

CCS is slated to play 12%role in decarbonizing theelectricity sector accordingto IEA

Post Combustion CO2capture is poised to bethe first generation CCStechnology in the energysector

Parametric study of the Amine Capture Plant system based on varying MEA concentrations

Studying the influence ofpacking type (random vsstructured) on theperformance of absorberand stripper reactors

Main Research Objectives

• Investigating how different MEA concentrations (30wt.% and 40wt.%) affect the performances of Amine Capture Plants

• Appraising the performance of Amine Capture Plant system with Random vs structured packing types

• Optimization of the process conditions above that yield the least Specific Reboiler Duty on gCCS.

Micro gas turbine Amine Capture Plant

30wt. % vs 40wt. % MEA

Reduction in energypenalty imposed on thepower plant due tointegration with CCS plant

The CO2 absorption/desorption

process was modelled using

gCCS v1.1.0 (Process Systems

Enterprise) with 30wt.% MEA as

the base case solvent

• Reduction in the Specific Reboiler Duty with higher MEA concentrationin the solvent. This is due to a decreased in the required solvent mass flowrate, which reduces consumption in the Reboiler.

• Increased corrosion from higher MEA concentration is expected.

• Improved column performance with structured vs random packing, whichgives better liquid-gas contact and lower pressure drop thus reducing theenergy penalty in Amine Capture Plant systems.
