The culture of Hindus is one of caring. Elders, animals, air, water, earth,people all these we care for. As an individual ,as a corporate entity, asa collective body, we care and we express that care. We grow by car-ing, from being only a consumer to be a contributor. Daanam, giving andsharing, is a mark of growth. Remaining a consumer all the time, and notbecoming a contributor, is not the Vedic view of life.

Ones self-worth is not mere money. It is ones culture. We have started

a movement, a Seva movement , that includes validation of cultures.Validation of ones culture brings respect and appreciation and one gainsself-worth.

If you do not have love , act lovingly; you will discover love. Similarly, inthe act of giving, you grow, people grow and your country grows.

Keep giving until it hurts. Giving is like weight-lifting. You cannot takea small mug and practise weight-lifting! The capacity of weight-lifting isin the attempt of shaking something that you cannot shake. You can give

your time, you can lend a sympathetic ear to someone; lots of peoplewant ears. You can express worlds of appreciation, encouragement, em-pathy and so on. Sharing your knowledge with somebody is also caring.You can also pray for somebody; there are may ways of giving.

Sanatana Dharma Foundations Vidya Daanam empowers under-privileged chin rural and remote tribal areas in India by providing them the opportunity to g

Vidya Daanam works with its Partner organization in India cafor Seva whose Vision is to create a National movement of caring to transformby bridging the urban rural divide in India, through a network of Seva servicSeva is an NGO with special Consultative status with the Economic and Social cthe United Nations.

The primary vehicle through which Aim makes its services available is through aHome also called a Chatralaya. The Coffer the children a nurturing, stable res

environment, and become the hub of otties such as health care, counseling, mocal facilities for the children as well for tin the rural and tribal areas. Women reccial counseling on post natal care, hygienutrition and so on. Thus the Chatralayathe integration of backward segments ointo the mainstream society.

The children in a Chatralaya are inculcated a disci-

plined daily routine that includes prayers, exercises,study, and recreation. Special emphasis is given toimparting value based education to build characterof children, enabling them to grow in a safe, healthyand conducive environment till they complete theirsecondary education. During the weekends art &craft classes are also conducted. Special classes(Sandhya Gurukulam) are held for those children,who require additional help in their academics. Theolder children help in keeping the Chatralaya clean.

Periodic medical checkups ensure healthy progressof the children.

Chatralayas are located close to a School, steachers and the School Principal can take pinterest in the welfare and progress of the cThus the Chatralaya is a source of stability of a child whose future may otherwise be uAim for Seva currently manages over 70 Chin 13 States, and 10 Schools in 4 states. In

Smt La lgud i V i j aya lakshmi is the daughter and discipleof the great South Indian Violin Maestro, Padmashri (1972)Lalgudi Jayaraman. She is a leading exponent of the Lalgu-di style, which is characterized by boundelss innovation while

strictly adhering to the musical tradition. She began learn-ing the violin under the watchful eye of her father at the ageof 6. Along with her brother Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan, she hasbeen maintaining the stylistic grandeur and singularity of theLalgudi tradition. She has played in many countries aroundthe world and also has the credit of leading a Violin, Veenaand Venu ensemble in over 50 concerts around the world.

Sm t Ka la Ramn ath is a disciple of the great Hindustani Vo-calist Maestro, Pandit Jasraj. Her Violin playing style is char-acterized by an immaculate bowing and fingering technique,command over laya, richness and clarity in Sur. She has rev-olutionized the technique of playing the violin by taking thisinstrument so close to vocal music that today her violin iscalled the Singing Violin. She has won many awards, and hasperformed widely around the world, notably in many interna-tional music festivals. She has also given numerous lecturedemonstrations of her art in many international venues.

She has also been involved in the background score of theHollywood Film Blood Diamond.

R u k m i n i V i j a y a k u m a r is a Bharatnatyan Dancer who hasbeen trained under Classical Dance Teachers such as GuruNarmada, Guru Padmini Rao and Guru Sundari Santhanam.

She also holds a BFA from the Boston Conservatory in Bal-let and Modern Dance. She has also studied Jazz, Tap, Afri-can Dance, Laban movement analysis, Stagecraft and Hu-man Anatomy at the Boston Conservatory. She has alsostudied acting at the New York Film Academy in Los Ange-les. She is the artistic director of the Dance company calledRaadha Kalpa, where she teaches, choreographs and createsnew Bharatnatyam, Modern and experimental Theater works.

She has also acted in three movies, the most recent one being the Tamil movie by the

name Kochadaiyaan where she plays the Actor Rajnikanths sister. Nayani is an artisticproduction conceived and executed by Rukmini Vijayakumar. This performance is beingshow cased in several cities in the USA, in 2012, as a fund raiser for Aim for Seva.
