(a)Who says and to whom?
(b)With what/whom is ‘a plague of locusts’ being compared?
(c)What is the tone of the speaker?
(d)According to the speaker, what would be the after-effect of the event?
2. He hears the last voice at night,
The patrolling cars,
And stares with his brilliant eyes
At the brilliant stars.
(a) What sound does the tiger hear at night?
(b) How do his eyes look?
(c) At what does he look at night?
(d) Which word in the stanza means ‘looks intently’?
3. Let me put it more clearly, since no one will believe that a thirteen-year-old girl is
completely alone in the world. And I’m not. I have loving parents and a sixteen-year-old
sister, and there are about thirty people I can call friends. I have a family, loving aunts and
a good home. No, on the surface I seem to have everything, except my one true friend. All I
think about when I’m with friends is having a good time. I can’t bring myself to talk about
anything but ordinary everyday things. We don’t seem to be able to get any closer, and
that’s the problem. Maybe it’s my fault that we don’t confide in each other. In any case,
that’s just how things are, and unfortunately they’re not liable to change. This is why I’ve
started the diary.
(a) Why was Anne Frank disturbed even when she had loving parents, relatives and friends?
(b)Why did Anne decide to write a diary?
(c)Find the word that means the same as ‘unluckily’.
(d)To confide in somebody is to ………

of their humanity?
2. Do you agree that Anne Frank was far more intelligent, mature and witty than her
age? Give a reasoned answer.
3. Give a different ending to the prose Hundred Dresses.
Q3. You got a chance to interview Covid-19. Write the dialogues that took place between you
and covid-19 highlighting the suffering it caused to human race worldwide.

dialogues and characters of your choice.

The Grimm Brothers: Folktales and Nation-building Grimms’ Fairy Tales is a familiar
name. The brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were born in the German city of Hanau in
1785 and 1786 respectively. While both of them studied law, they soon developed an
interest in collecting old folktales. They spent six years travelling from village to village,
talking to people and writing down fairy tales, which were handed down through the
generations. These were popular both among children and adults. In 1812, they published
their first collection of tales. Subsequently, both the brothers became active in liberal
politics, especially the movement for freedom of the press. In the meantime they also
published a 33-volume dictionary of the German language. The Grimm brothers also saw
French domination as a threat to German culture, and believed that the folktales they had
collected were expressions of a pure and authentic German spirit. They considered their
projects of collecting folktales and developing the German language as part of the wider
effort to oppose French domination and create a German national identity.
