    A Praying People…

I would guess there are many ways people understand who we

are as a church, as a people of God. For some it comes down to

being on a membership list but that is not what it means to be the

Church. For others it might come down to knowing the Creed, the

Lord’s prayer, and Scriptures but dare I say that faith is much more

than knowing, or reciting particular words or even retelling founda-

tional stories. For others being the people of God means we gath-

er weekly to give thanks and praise to God but again if this is the

total sum of what it means to be God’s people then perhaps we

have overlooked an incredible gift that comes from being God’s

    people.

We are a praying people. We are people who both individually

and as a community of faith stand before God in a Holy conversa-

tion. So many times this involves a deep stillness and silence, and

sighs too deep for words. Often we speak of our hopes, our

dreams, our desires, our needs, and yes, our wants. We are a

praying people who in our daily life speak the names of others to

the One who can do all things, who brings life from death, who

challenges the comfortable and who comforts the challenged. In

the silence of prayer, in the words and the spaces between those

words, in the naming of those loved ones and especially in the

naming of those we don’t always understand it is there that we are

    more fully the church.

When we pray out of faith we see others and ourselves in new

ways. It is because of this that we encourage you to renew your

prayer life. Consider coming to the Holy Week worship services

with a prayerful presence, in stillness, and in touching deeply your

own life, the life of the community of faith, and in an awareness of

    the deep needs of others.

We have so much to be thankful for, and yes, we have so many

needs to bring before God’s presence: Needs for our own lives, for

our country, for the call process, for our congregation and the 15

greater community. We have in our lives the names and faces of

many who seek hope and new life, who long for healing and com-

fort. We also come with ears buzzing from the noise of our society

from television to streaming video as well as the “noise” of internet

searches, smart phone apps, and Google answers.

I want to invite you to the kind of prayer that in the stillness not on-

ly begins to form words regarding our needs but begins to tune our

ears to the voice of the living God who seeks us at such a great

cost. This God is always with us and in prayer we listen, in prayer

we are guided and formed into new people, in prayer we are given

words to speak and deeds of mercy that without prayer we would

    never consider.

It is one of the most important parts of being the Church: Being a

    PRAYER FULL people!

Therefore, “Let us pray for the church, the whole world and for all

    people according to their need…”

    See you in worship!

    Call Committee update

In late February, we received a candidate name and had an initial

interview. The committee was interested in a second interview.

After several days of prayer and consideration, the candidate de-

    clined for personal reasons.

We have received a new candidate and we are in the considera-

tion process as we review all their paperwork. We will keep you

    updated as we make progress.

Please continue to pray for Fjeldberg’s next pastor, the synod as

they search, the call committee as they consider and interview

candidates, and our church as a whole.

  • February was an exciting month for the

Youth at Fjeldberg. We started practicing

for the Mime which has over 20 kids in it!

Even though we have a large group, eve-

rything is going smoothly we stay an ex-

tra hour after Sunday school, eat lunch,

and learn the story of Easter together.

Our junior high and high school kids went on a ski trip to Boone and had an

incredible time. We had several kids learn how to snowboard and ski for the

first time and they all did a great job. Even the first timers went down the

ramps and did jumps, thankfully no one was injured and we are already talk-

ing about going again next year. Our youth attendance at Wednesday Len-

ten services has been remarkable! February 17th there were actually more

youth in church than there were adults.

March will be just as fun and busy. We will continue to practice the mime

and put many more hours into making it perfect. We hope everyone will

come to sunrise service and witness the Easter Story through a mime per-

formance. Don’t forget the delicious breakfast that will follow in the fellow-

ship hall. The youth will also be serving this meal. It is one of the main

fundraisers of the year. Our junior high kids are taking their mission trip to

Minneapolis over spring break. Please keep them in your prayers as they

travel, do service, and try to be examples of God’s love away from home.

The Youth Outreach is out with dates from March to May. Be sure to take a

look so you don’t miss anything.

The youth committee is dedicated to creating safe, quality, and faith based

events for the youth at Fjedlberg. If you are an adult who would like to at-

tend, provide baked goods or food, or lead a bible study or faith based dis-

cussion please let Brittney Swanson know. The more spiritual adults who

interact with the youth the better. I appreciate all the volunteers and parents

who are constantly helping, giving, and giving some more so that the youth

    can continue to thrive.
