RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

All Religious Education Classes will resume Saturday,

February 24, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:15 A.M. in the school.

FOOD DRIVE THANK YOU!

The students in our Confirmation Preparation Program would

like to thank you for your participation in the food drive that took

place last weekend. Through your generosity, we collected over

2100 food items. Every donation helps in the fight against food

insecurity for the poor of the parish and the greater New Haven

Community. Thank you for your generosity.

CONFESSION MONDAYS

The Archdiocese will once again sponsor its Lenten Confession

Campaign. Monday will be "confession day" in every parish

throughout the Archdiocese, but visit ConfessionMondays.com

to look up parish locations and times. Extra Monday Confessions

here will be from 6-7 P.M.

FAST & ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting

and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are

obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Catholic

Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age

59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two

smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The

norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon

members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

JESTEŚ DLA MNIE WAŻNY

Opowiadając o swojej posłudze wobec ubogich i

trędowatych, św. Matka Teresa mówiła, że najgorszą

rzeczą dla ludzi, których spotykała codziennie na ulicach

Kalkuty, była świadomość, że są niepotrzebni. Nikomu nie

zależało na ich zdrowiu, nikt na nich nie czekał. Dlatego

razem ze swoimi siostrami starała się nie tylko tych ludzi

nakarmić, ale również dać im poczucie, że nie są sami.

Zauważmy, że Jezus mógł uzdrowić trędowatego swoim

słowem, zachowując bezpieczny dystans. Tak nakazywało

Prawo. On jednak zbliżył się, wyciągnął rękę i dotknął go.

Bóg przychodzi bardzo blisko, kiedy jesteśmy samotni,

cierpiący i odrzuceni, dotykając swoją miłością naszych

serc.

Jezu, pragnę kochać Cię taką miłością, jaką Ty mnie

ukochałeś. O to Cię proszę i pokornie błagam: uczyń serce

moje zdolne do takiej miłości.

RESISTING HAPPINESS

In his book, Resisting Happiness, Matthew Kelly begins by

asking readers why they feel overburdened, resist what is

good for them, and so often do what is not good for them.

He suggests that what is needed when we become

discouraged is to listen to our bodies, our conscience and

God. You may find this book provides helpful suggestions

for renewal during Lent, the season of renewal. Through

the generosity of a parishioner copies of the book are

available at the entrance of the church. Please take one.

LENTEN RESOURCES

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14th. Lent is an

important season in our common life as a Church. We take

this season seriously. We use it as a time to come closer to

God. It's a time to remove distractions and to sharpen our

focus so that we might better know God's ways and

become more loving in the world, on the job, and in our

own homes, far beyond the 40 days of Lent. To aid us in

making the season of Lent a time of renewal and

preparation for Easter, there are a variety of resources at

the entrance of the church.

This Week At Home — is a resource with prayers and

reflections for the days leading up to Ash Wednesday and

through the rest of the week. This can be a valuable way to

help prepare your family to begin the holy season of Lent.

Lent — A Season of Spiritual Preparation — this document

explains many of the disciplines and observances that take

place throughout the Lenten season such as fasting and

abstinence, prayer and almsgiving.

Lenten Family Calendar- this calendar has helpful ideas for

practicing the traditional pathways of prayer, fasting, and

almsgiving and provides simple steps to a meaningful Lent.

THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK

On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, Lent begins. Lent is a

time of renewal and repentance. To aid us during this time

of conversion, "The Little Black Book" for Lent is being

made available. This little book contains six-minute

meditations for each day of this very important liturgical

season. Copies can be found at the entrance of the church.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES RICE BOWL

As part of our faith community's Lenten observance, we

will participate in Catholic Relief Service's Rice Bowl

program. Since 1975, Operation Rice Bowl has inspired

Catholics in the United States to pray, fast, learn and give

as we increase our understanding of Catholic Social

Teaching and our obligations to the global community.

Rice Bowls can be found at the entrance of the church.
