St. Thomas Becket Women’s Guild St. Joseph’s Table

and Special Speaker

Please join us for the Women’s Guild meeting on Monday, March 19th. The meeting will begin at

6pm with a St. Joseph’s Day Table potluck dinner. Please bring a meatless salad or entrée to share. The business meeting will follow. We will also be

announcing our Woman of the Year.

Our special guest speaker, Leslie Goddard, a renowned historian and actress, will portray the

elegant and poised First Lady

Jacqueline Kennedy. Leslie will take us back

to 1964, with her dramatic portrayal. We will meet the

private woman behind the public myth,

as she worked to transform the White House into a museum of history and culture to

inspire the nation toward patriotism and public service.

Our speaker will start at 7:30pm.

As always guest and new members are welcome.

Tickets for the April 28th Fundraiser will be available for purchase at this meeting

and in April after Masses.

LIVE THE LITURGY If we continue to journey through life with-out genuine self-knowledge, without know-

ing how our relationships ought to be or-dered and what truth is, the path we walk will always be only dimly lit. In fact, when we make the wrong choices or find our-

selves forgetting who we are, we can easily find ourselves in darkness. "For God so

loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might

not perish but might have eternal life. " Jesus is the light that came into the dark-ness. It is not enough for us to simply be-lieve that Jesus is the Christ but we must live our lives in witness to this truth. The

choices we make and the priorities we es-tablish are going to either speak of some-one who really does not care, someone

who is confused, or someone who is wholeheartedly convinced of God's love.

Henri Nouwen, a great Catholic spiritual writer of modern times, will guide us to living in the “Here and Now” and to “Living in the Spirit” in this very spe-cial “bedside” book which will be the basis for a weekly guided reflection and discussion beginning Wednesday., April 11th, following the 9am morning Mass.

Together we will learn to live in the present—experiencing joy, embracing suffering, trusting prayer, being compassionate, understanding and family relationships, forgiving enemies, discovering who we really are!

CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATE

The old Baptismal font has been removed and the new one will be

in place by Holy Saturday. An upgrade of our sound system will

equip “assisted listening devices” for people with hearing aids and

with hearing problems. Our plans are still under review with the

Archdiocese of Chicago. We will share with the parish

AFTER EASTER, a full update on our progress and plans.

To date we have collected over $215,000 to use on

remodeling our church (Goal is $369,000).

dokumentacja są w dalszym ciągu przygotowywane do akceptacji przez

Archidiecezję, podzielimy się z państwem postępami po Wielkanocy.

Do dnia dzisiejszego na konto "Uczyć kim jest Chrystus" wpłynęło trochę ponad

$215,000. docelową sumą do przeprowadzenia renowacji kościoła zgodnie

z planami potrzebujemy $369,000. Bardzo prosimy o kontynuowanie wsparcia

finansowego, jak również nowe zobowiązania są w dalszym ciągu miłe

Question: Who invented the

Stations of the Cross?

Answer: The first Stations of the Cross

were walked by Jesus himself on the way to Calvary. Known as the

"Via Dolorosa" ("The Way of Suffering") or the "Via Cru-

cis" ("The Way of the Cross"), it was marked out from the earliest times and was a traditional walk for pilgrims who came to Jerusa-

lem. The early Christians in Jerusa-lem would walk the same pathway that Jesus walked, pausing for re-flection and prayer. Later, when Christians could not travel to the Holy Land, artistic depictions of "The Way of the Cross" were set up in churches, or outside and

Christians would walk from station to station, reading the Gospel ac-

count of the Passion, or simply praying and reflecting on each

event. While the content or place of each station had changed, the

intention was to make a mini-pilgrimage and follow--literally--in

the footsteps of Jesus.

This devotion became better known in the Middle Ages, and

the Franciscans are credited with its spread. Lent is a time when

many people make the Stations and some churches present Pas-sion plays or Living Stations. But anyone can pray the Stations at any time. It is a simple and per-

sonal reflection on the passion of Jesus and what it means to us.
