Blessed Water and Chalk for Epiphany Home Blessing

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the tradi"onal day for blessing homes and other buildings by marking the lintels of doorways with chalk. The markings commemorate the three Magi. The markings are 20+C+M+B+20. Those le#ers represent the three ini"als of the Magi’s names wri#en between the numbers of the year separated by four crosses. They are also the La"n abbrevia"on for “Christus Mansionem Benedicat”, which means “Christ Bless this House.” Blessed water and chalk are available a$er all Masses. You are invited to take these home with you. The prayer for you to use at home will also be provided.

HOLIDAY THANKS TO ALL

Today we celebrate Epiphany—the day when the Three Kings of Orient arrived in Bethlehem to bring baby Jesus gi$s of gold, frankincense and myrrh. To commemorate the three Magi we mark our doorways with these symbols: 20+C+M+B+20. On this Epiphany Sunday, our parish will host a concert of Polish and English Christmas Carols performed by the LIRA ENSEMBLE – all are invited.

At this "me I would like to thank the many people who helped make the Christmas season so wonderful in our parish. Many thanks to the parish staff and all liturgical ministers for sharing your faith, "me, and efforts to make our worship a holy offering. Lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers, greeters, servers and sacristans, you are truly a blessing to our parish. I would like to thank our music directors, all the cantors, instrumentalists, and choirs—both adult and children. Also, sincere thanks to all those who decorated our newly renovated church for Christmas. I received many complements on how beautiful and inviting our worship space looked and felt.

I would like to add a special thank you to all the parishioners for your generosity during our Christmas collection. For us to stay fiscally sound, I ask you if you can, to please share your generosity with the parish via the regular Sunday collection or the monthly religious education and Catholic school support collection. Dziś obchodzimy Trzech Króli - dzień w którym Trzej Królowie ze Wschodu przybyli do Betlejem i ofiarowali maleńkiemu Jezusowi złoto, kadzidło i mirre. Aby upamiętnić trzech Mędrców, znaczymy nasze drzwi symbolami: 20 + C + M + B + 20. Dzisiaj również w naszej parafii odbędzie się koncert polskich i angielskich kolęd w wykonaniu zespału LIRA - serdecznie zapraszamy wszystkich. Jest to dobry czas aby podziękować wielu osobom, które przyczyniły się aby okres świąteczny był tak wspaniały w naszej parafii. Duże podziękowania składam pracownikom parafii i całej służbie liturgicznej za podzielenie się swoją wiarą, czasem i wysiłkami aby nasze nabożeństwa były świętymi ofiarami. Lektorzy, Szafarze Eucharystii, marszałkowie, ministranci i zachrystianie – jesteście naprawdę dobrymi i błogosławionymi ludźmi. W szczególny sposób

pragnę podziękować naszym organistom, wszystkim śpiewakom, instrumentalistom i chórom. Dziękuję wszystkim osobom, które poświęciły wiele godzin pracy przy dekoracji naszego odremontowanego kościoła. Usłyszałem wiele komplementów jak pięknie i przytulnie wyglądała nasza świątynia. Pragnę dodać specjalne podziękowanie dla wszystkich parafian za szczodrość podczas naszej Bożonarodzeniowej kolekty. Abyśmy pozostali na dobrej drodze fiskalnej, proszę Was Drodzy Parafianie, jeśli możecie, abyście hojnie dzielili się z parafią poprzez tygodniowe niedzielne kolekty czy też miesięczne kolekty na wsparcie wychowania religijnego i szkół katolickich. HELP NEEDED While our first Christmas in the newly remodeled church was spactacular, we s"ll need to “update” the spiritual side of our church. We are in need of ushers, lectors, Eucharis6c ministers and sacristans. Please consider prayerfully joining us. To volunteer, let an usher know you want to help and give them your name, phone or email. You may also call the parish office: 847-827-9220 or email: s#[email protected]. Someone from the parish will contact you to review the responsibili"es and schedule you at an appropriate "me. Note: If you volunteer to be an usher, sacristan or Eucharis"c minister, there is no homework. You just need to arrive 15 – 30 minutes prior to the Mass. However, a lector will need to prac"ce the readings out loud at least 2 – 3 "mes before Mass. Being an usher, lector, sacristan or Eucharis"c minister will make a difference in the parish and I guarantee your par"cipa"on will increase your sense of community at St. Thomas Becket. GOSPEL MEDITATION

We may walk many roads when we search for God, and He leads us all the while. The men we honor today were not Jews. The Messiah wasn’t coming for them, not in the minds of Jesus’ contemporaries. These men were

astrologers. They were adept at reading portents in the sky, a prac"ce

condemned in the Mosaic covenant. S"ll, to the best of their knowledge and

awareness, they were seeking the truth. This truth led them to journey from their own homeland to honor a

king they’d never met, one they couldn’t be sure truly existed. “‘We saw

his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.’” Who do you know

seeks God so tenaciously?

“Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,” the Gospel tells us. Who

are the seekers in your own life? Maybe it’s your cau"ously curious co-worker, the neighbor who unexpectedly found

peace on a yoga retreat, or your desperately angry child who has

chosen, for now, to go their own way. Perhaps they’re not overtly headed for Jesus now, not yet. But they may well be seekers of truth in ways we didn’t

expect. Our invita"on is to listen, inquire, and give direc"ons when

appropriate.

The magi and modern-day seekers can inspire us as well. When is the last "me you sought God’s truth so tenaciously? As believers, it can perhaps be easy to become desensi"zed to the Christmas

season and to the miraculous reality we recently celebrated. Mass may have

been lovely, but so was the succulent roast beef, the crisp smell of evergreen, and the warm glow of family. Consider asking yourself, “God, do I know you as well as I should? Would I journey as far as the magi to meet You, if I could? Do I

journey to meet You daily in prayer? What do those answer say about me, and about our rela"onship?” Perhaps we, like the magi, can once again be

“overjoyed” at seeing the Light of the World. ©LPi
