Preface
PrefacePurpose The document defines the conditions regarding site preparation, for installing
EVOLIUM A925 Transcoder and activities to be handled by Customers and
Alcatel Services .
Generaldescription of
product
The EVOLIUM A925 Transcoder is connected to BSC or MFS with Ater-
mux interfaces and to MSC with A interfaces. With this standard A interface, Alcatel supports the ETSI standardisation process, allowing an operation in amulti-vendor environment.
The new A925 Transcoder, compared to the previous generations, allows therack sharing between several BSC.
The basic function of the EVOLIUM A925 Transcoder is to transform the 64
kbit/s user traffic, as defined in the fixed network, into a 16 kbit/s GSM signalformat with reduced bandwith.
The EVOLIUM A925 Transcoder has been designed in a modular way,
permitting flexible extensions. Investment can therefore be optimised bypurchasing and deploying the configuration, best suited to the networktopology.
The EVOLIUM A925 Transcoder is a modular part of the ALCATEL900/1800/1900 BSS.
