Albuquerque’s 11 distinctive neighborhoods refl ect the great diversity of our city. Each has a unique personality with a variety of places to stay, things to do and delicacies to eat.
around GettingG
etting to and around Albuquerque is easy. The world-renowned Albuquerque
International Sunport is serviced daily with nonstop fl ights to and from nearly
30 cities. You’ll fi nd service through the major carriers as well as regional airlines.
The Alvarado Transportation Center, located downtown, is Albuquerque’s transportation hub, directing both train and bus travel. The city is a major stop for both Greyhound and Amtrak lines from Chicago to Los Angeles. I-25 and I-40 intersect in the middle of the city, creating the Big I. This key intersection was renovated in 2002 and stands as one of Albuquerque’s major thoroughfares, keeping city drive time to less than 20 minutes. You’ll fi nd our city easy to navigate by car or public transportation.
If you fl y in, you can take the bus, an airport shuttle or taxi to your hotel of choice. The ABQ Ride bus system, which includes the Rapid Ride and downtown’s D-Ride buses, offers convenient routes to shops, restaurants, attractions and more via rapid transit and local service.
Legendary Route 66 can still be traveled today – it’s now Central Avenue, the city’s “main street.” Trolley ser-vice connects downtown to Old Town from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The New Mexico Rail Runner Express runs most days with north-south service through the metro area and Santa Fe.
Albuquerque also offers many other transportation options, including wheelchair-accessible vans, custom tours of the city and even bicycle taxis and Segways. No matter how you get to the city, you’re sure to experience some spectacular scenery along the way.
