COnSIDERInG THE EnVIROnMEnT RIGHT FROM THE START.
Our motivation:The improvement of vehicle energy efficiency and the associated development and introduction of sustaina-
ble fuels and drive systems, play an important role at KROnE’s vehicle plant.
KROnE is already working intensiv on logistics for tomorrow. A good example of the intensive development work from KROnE is the new refri-gerated semi-trailer with VIP (vacuum insulated panels) which increases cooling efficiency by 25
per cent.
Reduced fuel usage by the refrigeration system in turn leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions. Moreover, solar panels covering the entire roof, contribute to the conser-
vation of energy.
Aerodynamic. Also, in relation to aerodynamics, KROnE is a „First Mover“ in the trailer market. The one-piece side skirts - “Fuel Saver“ - as well as the Easy-Tarp curtain system already lead to savings in CO2 and fuel of up to 7 per cent.
Philosophy. KROnE’s philosophy is to continue developing systems that permit sustainable reduction of fuel and CO2. Accor-dingly, development of the new drive system has a parti-cularly high priority in the trailer production programme.
Innovation and development for the future - KrOne renergy
As part of the transport energy recupe-ration project, KROnE is working closely with its industry partners on a test trailer to examine how brake energy can be used to drive a refrigeration system.
Utilise energy that would otherwise go to wasteWhen looking for ways to protect the environment and in-crease efficiency, it is worth taking a look at energy that has not yet been utilised. Braking energy, for example. As a part of a research project, KROnE is developing a vehicle that works according to the principle of energy re-covery, otherwise known as recuperation: Braking energy is transformed into electrical energy and can supply elec-trical components in the vehicle.
reCOVerInG enerGY In the case of a standard brake, friction causes the kinetic or movement energy of the vehicle to transform into heat, which is lost to the atmosphere without being used. Ho-wever, this is not the case with what we call regenerative or recuperation brakes, which, in future, could be used to run the refrigeration units in the KROnE Cool Liner: Part of the energy that is released at the trailer‘s wheels during braking will be collected by axle generators and transfor-med into electrical energy.
Touch screen operation The driver will be able to use the system easily and com-fortably via a control unit in the driver‘s cab: A touch screen monitor will show all of the necessary information and a control function will communicate with the compo-nents to manage the system.
