SESSION 1 (a): WATER Water Resilient Cities
15 October 2019; 1500 - 1615 Hrs; CBR 3+2, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
Water becomes more and more a scarce resource as a result of urbanization and increased competition between various uses and economic sectors. Climate change will put more pressure on cities by increasing the risk for floods, droughts and heat waves. These challenges ask for a systemic approach and a transition in urban planning and urban water management. We have to rethink the way we deal with water in our cities and there is a need to (re)design cities from drained cities to green, resilient and circular cities, so called Water Resilient Cities (WRC). Objectives:
Better understanding of the concept of Water Resilient Cities Understanding different approaches and best practices on water resilient cities Areas for collaboration

SESSION 1(b): WATER Indo – Dutch Solutions for Cleaning Rivers
15 October 2019; 1630– 1745 Hrs; CBR 3+2, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
India’s rivers – which have always been given a position of sanctity in the culture – have become polluted bodies of water. More than 80% of river basins are facing water stress and scarcity on an overall basis. About 50% of riverine length shows high pollution measure in terms of BOD. It is estimated that the projected waste water from urban centres may cross 1,00,000 mld by 2050 and rural India will also generate not less than 50,000 mld in view of water supply designs for community supplies in rural areas. However, waste water management is not addressed to that pace. With the advent of industrialization, natural resources are depleted at more than ever increasing rates, with rivers bearing the brunt of every outlet from factory waste to sewage and even agricultural run-offs. Therefore, the need to clean them is mandatory for sustenance. Without genuine efforts, rivers have the capacity to be lost forever. The Session would focus on circular solutions for industry based on reduce, re use and recycle, but also focus on Zero Liquid Discharge solutions for Polluting industries. Due to stricter legislation and increasing energy prices there is a growing demand for innovative Zero Liquid Discharge technologies for treating complex waste waters in combination with energy reduction and resources recovery. Some breakthrough technologies will be explained as well as integrated approaches for re use and on innovative sectorial approaches for e.g. Leather, Textile and Paper Industries. Objective: Understanding the industrial challenges and looking at circular solutions/cost effective technologies for reduce, reuse and recycle for polluting industries to stay competitive and fit for the future. 1630- 1635 Hrs Opening Remarks by Moderator Prof Merle de Kreuk

SESSION 8(a): AGRICULTURE & WATER Smart Farming
16 October 2019; 1000 – 1130 Hrs; CBR 3+2, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
For many regions of the world, increasing water productivity (or “more crop per drop”) of irrigated and rain fed systems, rather than allocating more water, holds the greater potential to improve food security and reduce poverty with the environmental use. Smart Farming is a farming management concept using modern technology to increase the quantity and quality of agricultural products. It has the real potential to provide great benefits in terms of delivering more productive and sustainable agricultural production, based on a more precise and resource-efficient approach through efficient use of water or optimization of treatment and inputs. Smart Farming applications do not target only large, conventional farming exploitations, but could also be new levers to boost other common or growing trends in agricultural exploitations, such as family farming (small or complex spaces, specific cultures and/or cattle, preservation of high quality or particular varieties), and organic farming. Objective: Present the findings of the “Water Extensive Agriculture Project (Phase I) report” and identify 5-10 business opportunities across India that will endeavor to connect Dutch technologies in Water and Agriculture (in particular crops) with opportunities in water stress climate zone across India. 1000- 1005 Hrs Opening Remarks by Moderator

SESSION 8(b): AGRICULTURE & WATER Data driven Agriculture
16 October 2019; 1200 - 1330 Hrs; CBR 1, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
Farmers in the 21st century have access to GPS, soil scanning, data management, and Internet of Things technologies. By precisely measuring variations within a field and adapting the strategy accordingly, farmers can greatly increase the effectiveness of pesticides and fertilizers and use them more selectively. Data driven agriculture helps in looking at:
Management Information Systems: Planned systems for collecting, processing, storing, and disseminating data in the form needed to carry out a farm’s operations and functions.
Precision Agriculture: Management of spatial and temporal variability to improve economic returns following the
use of inputs and reduce environmental impact. It includes Decision Support Systems (DSS) for whole farm management with the goal of optimizing returns on inputs while preserving resources, enabled by the widespread use of GPS, GNSS, aerial images by drones and the latest generation of hyperspectral images provided by Sentinel satellites, allowing the creation of maps of the spatial variability of as many variables as can be measured (e.g. crop yield, terrain features/topography, organic matter content, moisture levels, nitrogen levels, etc).
Agricultural automation and robotics: The process of applying robotics, automatic control and artificial intelligence techniques at all levels of agricultural production, including farm bots and farm drones. Objectives:
Data driven agriculture which includes Smart Solutions for Farmers & Soil & Water Monitoring Identification of possible areas of collaboration in precision agriculture

SESSION 5(a): WASTE TO VALUE Biomass to Value Added products- Alternative & Sustainable Use of Biomass
15 October 2019; 1500 – 1615 Hrs.; Studio 4, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
India is one of the key producers of food grain, oilseed, sugarcane and other agricultural products. Agricultural crops generate considerable amounts of leftover residues, with increases in food production, crop residues also increases. These leftover residues exhibit not only resource loss but also a missed opportunity to improve a farmer’s income. These crop residues in various fields can be used for the generation of energy in terms of electricity & biogas and production of recycled products, packaging, compost and manures, etc. India produces about 450-500 million tons of biomass per year. It has got 145 million tons of biomass surplus every year from more than 30 major varieties of biomass sources, which can be utilized to produce value added products and bio-energy. Moreover, in some parts of India, crop residues are burnt as waste which leads to polluting the environment and eliminating a valuable material that can be used in multitude of ways. The Indo-Dutch Sustainability Forum ‘INDUS’ is an initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India and MVO Nederland (‘CSR Netherlands’) that aims to make all trade and investments between India and the Netherlands sustainable. Under this initiative, 10 circular economy frontrunners from India and the Netherlands signed a ‘Partnership Agreement’ in April 2019, that aims to validate circular value chain with Indian agricultural crop residue. Objective: This session aims to bring together Dutch and Indian businesses. The panel will discuss challenges; sustainable solutions; policy initiatives taken by Indian government; the INDUS project; and partnerships opportunities to develop sustainable and circular business models from waste in India, with major focus on: Upcycling of paddy straw into board & packaging material Generation of distributed/ community level bio-energy Generating bio-chemicals/ fuels from biomass such as ethanol Various barriers to biomass to power generation plants and upcycling of biomass in India

SESSION 7(b): EDUCATION Internationalization of Education and Research
16 October 2019; 1200 – 1330 Hrs; Studio 2, J.W. Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi
Globalisation has impacted the way the economy and people operate beyond geographic boundaries. Internationalisation of education and research is an import by-product of globalisation. Internationalisation is not an end in itself, but a driver for change and improvement – it helps generate the skills required in the 21st century, spur on innovation and create alternatives while, ultimately, fostering job creation. Universities across the world are already seeking to make the most of the possibilities this presents by forming global partnerships and fostering relationships with other institutions. One out of five of the world’s scientific papers are co-authored internationally. As a result of the expansion of communication methods and the ease of international travel, academics and researchers are finding it easier than ever to collaborate with their foreign counterparts, making the exchange of academic ideas much simpler. This session would highlight the key benefits of internationalization in the context of India Netherlands relationship, existing institutional partnerships between higher education institutes from the two countries and explore avenues for collaboration. 1200 – 1205 Hrs Welcome
