Our School

We are dedicated to provide students with all round education and a happy, harmonious and

positive learning environment conducive to moral, academic, physical, social, personal and

artistic development for pursuing excellence and meeting challenges in the ever-changing world

in the 21st century.

In times of globalization, we further widen our school vision to groom global-minded talents by

the provision of international curriculum. Accredited as IB World School, we are offering

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) from the school year 2015-2016

onwards, and sending the first batch of IB graduates to world renowned universities for further

study, which we believe, prerequisite to promising careers prospects.

Achievements and Reflection on Major Concerns

Major Concern 1: To enhance academic achievements in local and international

curriculum and examination.

Administration

Effort was collaborated and synchronized in curriculum development, ECA and pastoral care,

so as to further follow the direction of having quality control on student learning outcomes,

diversified ECA as well as good school teams, good student behavior and school ethos.

The school achieved good value-added performance in HKDSE Exam 2013 and 2014 (Core

4 and Best 5 both at 9; 8 subjects gaining value-added 8 or 9 in 2013; 6 subjects gaining

value-added 9 in 2014). The school has become the top 5% highest value-added schools

territory-wide. 90% of graduates were admitted to universities. Students also well performed

in IELTs, FCE, F.3 TSA, 國家語委普通話水平測試 and 港澳地區普通話水平考試. Good

school image has been maintained with decently behaved students.

With allocation of more resources, students and teachers were encouraged to actively

participate in international forums and competitions, e.g. MUN, ASEAN Summit, World

Scholar’s Cup, Underwater Robot Challenges, Presentation of Scientific Researches,

Australian National Chemistry Quiz, Australian Mathematics Competition. Outstanding

achievements were made.

More facilities were procured and installed for curriculum development e.g. date based

resources, IT aided learning, smart boards, iPad, race track, projectors, wireless microphone

etc.

Curriculum Development

The HKDSE syllabi were finished before November 2013, so that revision and more mock

practices could be done during lessons.

Core curriculum and enhancement materials have been polished up based on the latest

requirements of the HKDSE.

Comprehensive notes and revision packages were provided for remedial and enhancement

purposes.

20-25% NSS syllabus was downward-shifted to junior forms.

More emphasis was put on the use of online resources.

Questions in assignments were rearranged according to level of difficulty, topics or

relevance.

Major Concern 2: To cultivate students’ active reading habits and learning skills, and

elevate their learning motivation.

Administration

Consultants were invited to further develop and elevate awareness on effective teaching,

enquiry-based and student-centred teaching and learning methodologies. Teachers and

students have been more aware of effective and active teaching and learning methodologies.

Techniques are to be further polished up.

Parents and teachers are more conscious of the 21st century skills such as thinking skills,

communication skills, information searching & synthesis skills and collaborative skills.

Curriculum Development

News commentary was adopted as an assignment by Liberal Studies, English Language,

Chinese Language and most social science subjects, while scientific investigation was done

in all science subjects.

More news articles were used in social science lessons.

Bonus questions related to reading articles in journals or magazines were included in tests

and examinations.

Information Technology

Our IT department helped to tailor made an in-house program and solve technical problems

for facilitating English Reading Scheme which cultivates students’ active reading habits.

IT Department and different subject panels work in close collaboration in managing the Apps

purchased and installed in the newly bought iPads. A training session was conducted before

the commencement of new school year in August for all teachers on iPad-aided teaching and

management.

Major Concern 3: To maintain good language and learning environment with more

advanced facilities.

Administration

Emphasis has been placed on language quality in morning assemblies, school functions and

ceremonies.

Frequent reminders were given to teachers for providing students with opportunities to

communicate in good language.

Trainers were recruited for the training of 國家語委普通話水平測試, Chinese Choral

Speaking, Chinese Debate, English Musical and World Scholar’s Cup competitions.

Impressive results have been achieved.

Information Technology

Teachers felt satisfied with the use of new printers and the newly renovated classroom.

The print server could be rebooted regularly for better performance of printers in staff room.

Toners could be placed in the staff room for quick replacement.

Smart boards, iPads, school hall projector and computers were purchased in order to increase

teaching and learning efficiency. Those newly purchased IT equipment could definitely

improve the school learning environment.

Major Concern 4: To promote non-academic achievements in sports, music, art and

aesthetics education with better inter-school competition results

Administration

School facilities were properly maintained and further elevated to enliven school life and

enhance outcomes.

Collaboration and management systems were further polished up among cultural teachers

and external coaches.

There was better collaboration among teachers for competing and utilizing time space

between academic and non-academic development among students.

Impressive results have been achieved with 14 Group Champions and 40 Individual

Champions in Sports, Music and Arts.

Extra Curricular Activities

Apart from the impressive achievements in external competitions, different mass

programmes were launched successfully including Sports Day, Swimming Gala and an array

of post exam activities.

Sports camp was organized for selected school sports teams during summer vacation. Team

spirit was boosted among team members. Their physical and psychologically well-being for

competitions has been strengthened as well.

Art Exhibition and the 9th

Annual Concert, held at Cultural Centre and AC Hall of

Hong Kong Baptist University respectively, were also huge successes demonstrating

students’ talents and the school’s fruitful harvest in music, art and aesthetics education.

Information Technology

IT Prefects entered two external competitions with fair performance. More encouragement

could be given for more active participation with the provision of quality training so that

better outcomes could be generated.

Major Concern 5: To nurture appreciative and principled students with good sense of

morality, discipline and courtesy.

Administration

Basic virtues and sense of morality (honesty, appreciativeness, courtesy, sense of

responsibilities) were promoted and cultivated in whole school approach.

Students enjoy coming to school and colleagues enjoy harmonious relationship with each

other.

Discipline

Self-respect and courtesy were emphasized. Greet Aloud green slips were issued by

discipline teachers. No students received conduct penalty due to accumulation of reminder

slips.

Close and regular follow-up actions were taken to handle habitual latecomers. Overall

lateness record dropped significantly.

Visits were arranged to police stations, Customs and Excise Department, Immigration

Department and Civil Aid Service. The importance of self-discipline has been introduced.

Parent and student surveys and class teacher counseling were conducted to reduce the misuse

of i-gadgets. Surprise checks on mobile phone were also carried out. There were no records

of bringing along mobile phones during final examination and on Sports Day. Students

become more self-controlled.

Foot drill practice, passing-out parades and inter-class competitions were conducted for all

F.1 to F.3 students. Quarterly class teacher meetings and life education common preparatory

periods were also held for close collaboration among class, subject and discipline teachers.

All these facilitate the cultivation of good class ethos and behaviours.

Two by-level self management group meetings were held. Teachers and students have raised

their awareness towards class and form ethos.

Weekly cleanliness mark was issued. No classes were required to do after-school cleansing.

The cleanliness in canteen area was not satisfactory, so litter Bug Campaign was launched in

2nd quarter in which litter bugs were required to be cleaning helpers. General cleanliness has

improved since then.

In general, mass discipline in major school functions and ceremonies have improved.

Students showed improvement in social etiquette when attending assemblies. Prefect Team

training day camp and barbecue gathering helped enhance team spirit among student leaders.

Guidance

Morning reading materials and sharing were helpful in raising awareness of moral issues

among teachers and students. Students generally did quality reflection in their life education

booklet.

The duties of Guidance Ambassadors have been shifted from class based activities to whole

school thematic programmes. Guidance Ambassadors could be delegated more

responsibilities in preparing for whole school thematic programmes so that stronger sense of

belonging will be developed.

Thematic programmes including Secret Teachers, Fathers’ Day and Mothers’ Day, Guidance

Week and Thanksgiving Day were launched. Sense of appreciation and courtesy were

successfully promoted. The participation rate of all these programmes was good especially

among junior formers.

Individual case counseling was handled by class teachers, guidance teachers and social

workers. Each class teacher handled two cases while each guidance teacher handled two

extra cases.

Community services were arranged for all levels throughout the year. The class-based

community services have raised students’ social awareness and social responsibility. It is

suggested that services for senior forms should emphasize on developing leadership and

organization skills. Besides, around 100 students were awarded for their devotion to

volunteer service through Volunteer Movement initiated by Social Welfare Department.

The spiral school based life education curriculum enhanced the balanced development of

personal growth among students. By-level camp was also held for F.1, F.2 and F.3

respectively with a major theme: Communication Skills Enhancement (F.1), EQ Training

(F.2) and AQ Training (F.3). Different workshops, exhibitions, group works, drama and

parent talks were also launched to promote positive thinking.

Through Healthy School Programme, drug information seminars were held respectively for

teachers, students and parents. Over 200 students joined the Voluntary Drug Test. Four tests

were smoothly launched on school campus in low-profile manner. Around 50 students were

tested. The Healthy School Programme will continue in the next school year for maintaining

healthy school culture.
