This group of materials include toughened allay steels. The aim of toughening is to obtain the optimal combination of strenght and plasticity limit with the elongation, constriction and toughness. Improved heat rods are used for production of final products by machining method and additional surface hardening. Next, we can produce from them components such as gear-wheel, drive- shaft, axles etc. According to the requirements of our clients, there has been a process of modernization of the furnaces built in the fifties and sixties : chamber furnace with extendable core and furnace with the transport system of rods(from and to the furnace). Additionally the line has been equipped with the newly designed (and produced)quenching tank which allows hardening of the rods in aqueous solution of polymer together with the transport system of rods and descaling system. The line's efficiency is about 10 000mg/a year (including campaign work). Pict. 1 Hardening of the rods The essence of the new heat treatment line of rods is the gradual process of heating of the rods before the hardening process. Summarizing, realization of the heat treatment line of rods project is the example of an innovative and very effective solution, which made it possible to produce and sell toughened round rods together with meeting high quality requirements of the both national and international clients. The above project has increased the added value of the round rods produced so far, which after toughening are one of the most profitable products of our clients.
