Support Camp Mechuwana One Can or Bottle at a Time

CLYNK helps turn your recyclable cans and bottles into cash for Camp Mechuwana. This has been one of the most successful fundraisers Mechuwana has ever done. We provide the stickered CLYNK bags. Then you fill them with your returnable bottles and cans and return the bag to a participating Hannaford store (most Hannaford stores in Maine have the CLYNK program). This program provides an average of $3,000 each year to camp.

Cover artwork: The pen and ink artwork on the cover are by longtime camp counselor Cecily MacKinnon of Patten. Cecily counseled Jr./Sr. High Creative Arts for many years, served on the Mechuwana Site Committee, and was an enthusiastic supporter of camp’s ministry. She passed away in November 2017, and her presence at camp is greatly missed. Brochure photos by: Beth Wallace, Dawn Zarecki Reidy, Rev. CAMP “I AM” FOR GIRLS #21 for girls finishing Grades 4-6 Our theme: Growing in Self-esteem. Self-respect is the basis for a whole, well-balanced life. Our culture is hard on females, and young girls emerging into womanhood are at risk of losing self-respect. One week free of criticism, working on skill building and taking risks as new experiences are practiced, can help strengthen a girl’s ability to cope with the negative messages from this culture. This camp is a safe place to try new things, and affirmation will come from within as the camper practices new skills like playing games, singing, crafts, swimming, and boating, and share in discussions about growing up female: the challenges and joys.

ELEMENTARY (PLUS) MUSIC THEATRE #23 For campers finishing Grades 3-7 Last year, we celebrated with the revival of a musical from 10 years ago. Now another year has passed and we’ll be reviving another show! This year Elementary (Plus) Music Theatre Camp will present “The Machine (The Reboot).” It’s a story about a crazy professor and his/her assistants who build a machine that can turn people from what they are into what they want to be. There are some funny neighborhood characters, a team of news reporters, and even an inspector from the Environmental Protection Agency. In the end, they all learn an important lesson that the power to change comes from within each one of us and not from a machine.

Come to Elementary (Plus) Music Theatre Camp and you will be part of this revival show with acting, singing, dancing, and more. A performance will be held on Saturday morning at 9:30 for families and friends. Mechuwana could not exist without its volunteers. Every year, more than 200 individuals come to Mechuwana to counsel a cabin of campers, lead a program, teach a craft or sport, help in the kitchen, or help with maintenance. It is because of this great volunteerism that we are able to keep the costs of camp down. We have many opportunities for people who want to volunteer in 2019. We hope you are able to come spend a week or more with us at Mechuwana. Remember: Parents or guardians who volunteer receive a $100 credit toward the price of their child’s camp. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the camp office. Mechuwana Camperships We believe that no camper should be denied the opportunity to come to Mechuwana for financial reasons. Over the years, local churches have worked hard to provide financial assistance for their campers. Mechuwana also supports that effort with camperships for families in financial need. If you need assistance to send someone to camp, please contact us at the camp office to ask for a scholarship application.

Everyone is Welcome at Mechuwana Mechuwana does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, or color. Credit Card Payments Accepted We accept payment via Visa/Mastercard/Discover. To pay by credit card, please call Carol at the camp office anytime Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Contact Us Phone: (207) 377-2924 Email: [email protected] Website: www.mechuwana.org Fax: (207) 377-4388 Mailing Address: PO Box 277, Winthrop, ME 04364-0277
