Thank you for taking the time to look through my Curriculum Vitae and portfolio.

My passion for that which is creative and for design as a whole has long been burning but had not come to fruition. I decided to take the plunge properly when joining SPACE Magazine/MSm and from there I learned more and more about client-based marketing and how to incorporate that with the client’s vision. It is there that my creative side began to emerge and through hard work, loyalty and support, I managed in quite a short period to learn not only personal creative skills, but also more importantly, what the client’s needs are. I am quite new in the industry but in the last eight months have mastered the ability to create, nurture and supply the client with quality corporate advertising – for various markets, needs and publi-cations.

I have also learned page layout in both the glossy magazine industry and the newspaper industry. I have learned the intri-cate values of colour, paper and how they both need to be care-fully managed for different publication qualities. The use of design and how to manage creatives for both mediums as well as the use of technical layout procedure to ensure perfect layout for spreads, leading, and conformity of pages. I have added pdf files of both publications where not only my advertising is on display, but also my design and layout of each publication.

The programmes that I can safely say that I have mastered are all the main publication-based programmes on CS2 – CS4, ie. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign and Adobe Imageready. I am personally taking the challenges now to learn Adobe Illus-trator, Dreamweaver and Flash. I am also currently research-ing online courses that will hopefully have me achieving an in-ternationally recognised diploma or degree in Graphic Design and Publication Layout on a part time basis, that would not hinder my professional career but that would only enhance my skills and further adding to wherever I may work.

My other passion is photography and the manipulation of pho-tographs to create not only personal creations, but to be able to further a client’s marketing through the use of hands-on imagery and this creating a top flight international corporate image.

I am eager, loyal and above all have a strong passion for cre-ative design and would greatly appreciate to meet with you in person to further discuss my skills and the advantages of me working with your establishment.

The magic of compounding - puT some mojo in your money

albert einstein, arguably one of the greatest scientific minds to have ever lived, described com-pound interest as “the most powerful force in the universe”. What is this phenomenon, and how do people use it to their advantage to live comfortably in old age? There is no secret formula or ingredient to retiring comfortably. it’s all a matter of time and disci-plined saving. Those who start saving early and allow themselves enough time to reap the results, benefit from the magic of compounding.

WhaT is compound inTeresT?

compound interest, in simple terms, is interest on your interest. and each year that you invest and earn interest, you not only earn interest on the money you have invested, but also on the interest you have earned in the previous year. so, over time, the longer you invest the more inter-est on the interest you have already earned. The sooner you start to illustrate the powerful effects of compound interest, let us use the ex-ample of a person who invests n$500 per month at an average return of 5%. his or her money would be worth n$77 182 after ten years. after twenty years, it would be worth n$202 902 -almost three times as much. after thirty years n$407 688 - more than five times the initial value. in the early years of your investment it may take many years to double the value of your contributions. But the longer you invest the shorter the time it takes for your investment to double and then double again because you are not only earning interest on your contributions but on the many years of interest, too. a simple rule of thumb then is that it is better to save less for longer than more for shorter. This will result in more capital at the end of the day. first prize obviously will be to save significant amounts for significant terms!

it has been calculated that if the north american tribe who sold manhattan in 1626 for sixty dutch gilders had invested this money with a bank at an annual interest rate of only 6,5%, their investment would have been worth an astonishing $820 billion us dollars in 2005 - more than the assessed value of all the real estate in all 5 boroughs of new york city. so, one of the valuable tools anyone can use to ensure a financially carefree retirement, is to start saving as soon as possible and to continue saving for as long as possible. in other words, give your retirement money enough time to earn the critical interest on interest.

after ten-odd years, namibia’s aviation industry finally gets the radar they have been asking for. thales, a french company, also implicated in the Jacob Zuma arms deal corruption saga, was awarded the contract after a lengthy tender process, started already in 2007. but questions need to be asked and as is usual, no answers can be supplied to the media. august 26 holdings, a wholly government-owned company, has, along with its subsidiary sat-com, claimed what appears to be the lion’s share of the local work as it pertains to the radar. august 26 holdings has been implicated in the most ugly way, in all kinds of diamond dealings in the demo-cratic republic of the congo and to this day, save the fact that Government has admitted that the company co-manages a mine, none of the other allegations have ever been cleared.as such, a shadow must continue to fall over the company.calls made to ascertain whether the mine is still active (apparently a 15-year deal was concluded in mid-august 1999) failed in that we were referred continually up-ward until eventually, the chief of the ndf, lieutenant General martin shalli, could not be reached.

complaints were lodged regarding the tender process. allegations that calcula-tions were incorrect were also made and further to this, that thales was the most expensive tenderer at around 9.9 million Euros. italian firm selex systemi integrati tendered at 2.3 million Euros lower than that of thales while indra sistemas satendered at 8.7 million Euros. the process was explained to this newspaper by well-placed sources. for a local company to get a ‘piece of the pie’ so to speak, (this was also a requirement in the tender – that local companies be used), deals would have to be concluded with all of the final approved tendering companies. We were unable to ascertain whether or not august 26 holdings had done so. this newspaper was also reliably informed that companies other than sat-com have the capacity and ability to do the work. most concerning however, is that after the media reports during early 2000 to mid-2004 regarding august 26 holdings and their activities in the drc, there should have been an investigation. allegations of conflict diamonds and monies generated from these funnelled to European and other overseas destinations, should not be taken lightly and Government would have been wise to respond to these at the time.and to further compound matters, this newspaper was stonewalled when enquiries were made to find out what exactly had transpired during the tender process and no answers could be obtained. the validity then, of the work as it pertains to the surveillance radar secured by august 26 holdings, a company created and operated with public funds yet no financial statements made public, must remain in doubt. atleast until answers are received.

Zimbabwean DÉJÀ VUInterview with a Zimbabwean farmer

Peter Etheredge and his family, whose Stockdale Citrus Estate lies near Chegu-tu in Zimbabwe, are once more living at the mercy of farm invaders since last Sunday.

following threats of invasion last year, the family was forced to flee from their farm, fearing the brutality of notorious gangs of war veterans threatening to take over their citrus farm.after the 2008 invasions, they achieved the almost impossible by joining over 70 Zimba-

bwean farmers in a case that was heard in Windhoek by the sadc tribunal. in november, the tribunal condemned the process of the farm acquisitions, and found that the Zimbabwean government had acted against the sadc treaty.however, despite this outcome, and a further two high court judgments delivered in favour of the Etheredges, they are once again on alert to the threat and fear of a possible forced removal from their home.a press release to the media this week announced that this past sunday, the Etheredge family were visited by mr clever kanonga, a chegutu lands officer, who claimed that he had been sent by senator Edna madzongwe to inform them that they will be evicted the next day.
