Going Crazy with ROTOSCOPING:

This Music Video was made for a client who are buddingmusic artists called collectively as “Okazeduke.”

I did all production roles: Directing, cinematography, editing, rotoscoping, etc...The two music artists are featured in the video.

The main location I chose was by Waterloo station - an alleyway featuring numerous works from a randomassortment of spray-painters that felt the fitting place, given the nature of their music. I aimed to imbibe a fuck it” athesthic that was them!

I filmed with the intention of focusing on their oddnesswhich came out in the footage. I always try and havea laugh with anyone I film so they relax in the space.

My process is a standard workflow: Everything works as normal except for Rotoscoping, a highly time-consumingprocess taking several hours for a mere few seconds.

The idea behind the rotoscoping came because of an80s/90s athesethic they had going on. The snapbacksand their music felt like something “edgy” you would find on MTV back in the day. I wanted to give thisimpression.

A Live Production:

4

This was a Live TV Production as part of my Degree:

We had one-take only to get it right - with an hour on the day of rehershal time.

I was Executive Producer of this production and Director/Cameraman of the Location Shoots. We had a massive amount of equipment to play around with - Professional Studio Lights, 3x HD Cameras, a Live-Production Editing Suite, A professional Sound Suite and and Live Croma-Keying with the Blue Screen with a crew of 10.

For this Production, it was required for time the duration of each segment to a second; having my Director of the Live Production cut on-cue.

This Production featured the Advertising Degree Show students in their final year and talking to them about their plans for the future; intercutting the Live-Show with the Location Shoots which showed them on the day of, which showcased some of their work and getting their opinions on what it was like being a University Student at UAL.

A Set Direction:

This Short Film was made as part of my degree at the University of the Arts, London, LCC where I was Director. This was a studio-production.

I have to note that the lack of a strong Producer and role orientation in student films can make a simple workflow for a Production that much harder. The many amendments myself and my crew wanted for the script and crewing couldn’t take place; so their was a lot having our heads banging against a stubborn brick wall.

The film focuses on a married couple; one in the army; an ardent racist, and the other an heiress who wants to be an artist (although failing). The back-story behind these characters involves her hanging out with her black Jazz musician friends while he was away for work. Having them come back to her house and using them for models to draw.

The narrative boiled down to a domestic conflict that turns violent; he is angry at her for having made a drawing of “this man!” and it ends with a violent outburst from the male protagonist. Because of the short-duration time, (liimited 4 minutes - not including opening and credit titles), I didn’t want the story to be exposition galore. The story was barebones like the typical student script, so I wanted the progression of the male’s protago-nist’s anger to be at the forefront of this film.

The Production Process:

The Production process was a new for me as I hadn’t worked with dedicated set designers from the beginning of a production. We also had a skeleton set from the beginning to play around with and a budget given to us of around £250; buying props, paint, additional equipment, etc...

We worked with a Red Epic Raw camera; on-set we utlised live-grade version of Davinci colour-grading with all of my video streaming right into the computer.

The Crew was broken down into: ProducerDirectorScreenwriterSound Recordist & SoundDesignerCinematographerEditorFirst Assistant DirectorProduction DesignerProduction AssistantProduction ManagerDIT

The Production from start to finish was 2 weeks. From the bare set to the final edit. The entirty of the Principal Photography last for 8 hours; starting at 9am and finish-ing at 3pm.

I made my own edit, added my own music and colour graded the film after my dis-pleasure with the edit done by the crew’s Editor. (My Edit is linked via QR code).

Glitching Out:

This Film was an experiment. To see what would happen if i recorded film and then exported every frame as a PNG for image-manlipulation. This created a glitching out effect that is mirrored by the audio created for it. All the images were imported back into Premiere linearly to give this effect.

Abort - Feature Length:

This is a Feature Length script I wrote that I submitted into the BBC’s writers room.

It follows the story of “Claire” who unexpectedly finds out that she’s pregnant and it’s too late for her to get an abortion.

Based on a story from a friend about someone he knew who went through this - and her decisions which ulti-mately ended with her family turning their backs on her.

Logline: A young and happy student couple find them-selves rocked by a sudden pregnancy with events that spiral out of their control. Unable to abort.
