What is "Remain in Mexico"?"Remain in Mexico," (RIM) officially known as the MigrantProtection Protocols (MPP) was implemented in January 2019. It is a U.S. immigration policy forcing asylum seekers arriving atports of entry (POE), on the U.S. southern border, to be returnedto Mexico to wait for the duration of their U.S. immigrationproceedings.

In September, tent facilities were set up by theDHS and DOJ in Brownsville and Laredo, Texaswith judges videoconferencing into courtrooms
to hear asylum cases. The public now haveaccess to the hearings, but with very strict
limitations. The tent courts present a seriousdue process violation for asylum seekers.
