The United States government willoperate on a budget system whenthe people demand It. It won't comemuch before the time when thehousewives of the country run theirhouseholds on a budget basis. Likecharity, thrift begins a thorne. •

    ALLINJURED SOLDIERSENTITLED TO COMPENSATION

The State Veterans' Welfare Com-mission announces that thousands ofreturned service men from the greatwar who are entitled to compensa-tion through disability Incurredwhile serving with the colors willlose their benefits by lack of atten-tion, a government regulation pro-vides they must file application forcompensation within one year fromtheir date of discharge or release, and those failing to do so will beeliminated or seriously delayed intheir award.

It Is stated that most of the vet-erans who were seriously incapaci-tated have had their claims adjusted, but those with minor Injuries have

: failed to gain advantage of thela.!rights. In order to hasten the*, dis-charge, many stated they were ingood physical condition and there-fore have an erroneous Idea they arenot compensable. Likewise, some

believe they have no claims becausethe defect was not noted on theirdischarge or because they wore notin the front line trenches. The gov-ernment, however, has recognizedthese acts wore due to tho naturalenthusiasm of hoys In their desire toreturn homo, and has waived themas a barrier to compensation.

It is the commission's desire tohave word reach every ex-soldier,sailor or marine that no matter howslight their Injury, they may have jjust claims against the governmentand should file application immedi-ately. Those who have been dis-charged over one year can have theircases appealed Individually to Wash-ington, D. C, by prompt action now.

This feature oi government serv-ice is entirely distinct from, andshould not bo confused with, warrisk insurance and is designed as abetter suastitute for the pensions ofprevious wars.

All veterans who think they mightbe entitled to any such benefits

Thrift and saving are stimulantato legitimate business, but they arepoisonous to illegitimate business.Right now the manufacture and saleof expensive luxuries Is not legiti-mate business.
