Wineries in the Area
Due to its topography and morphology, the observed area has no connection with the
soils of Agrelo, which is good as the surrounding Agrelo area corresponds to the lower
zone, with worse drainage, heavy soils, with high probabilities of frost. On the
contrary, the observed area corresponds to a high ground, about 30 to 50 mts over the
previously described zone. The observed soils have no connection with what Agrelo
presents, being in general more suitable than the lower zone for high end wines.

Optimal Location
All the observed soil samples followed that descriptive pattern, however some
differences were observed in each soil sample in the amount of rocks, in the level of
carbonation, as well as in the soil's depth before reaching the gravely soil. These
three factors are highly important when developing the design of the irrigation units
for the future vineyards.
The observed soils correspond to grape growing units with very good drainage, high
porosity, and limited water and mineral fertility. The organic matter contents are low.
There are no significant restrictions observed in the soils. However, the presence of
lime and gypsum must be significant determining factors for the use of stocks,
essentially resistant to ferric clorosis, at least at a medium level, and that at the same
time due to the type of soil, are strongly pivoting. Patterns such as 110R or 1103P
appear to be appropriate. The plantation densities for Malbec, under these stocks,
can fluctuate in medium to high densities, essentially 2x1, 1,8x1.
