4 Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, A week ago there was a Chicago Priests Convocation, which I enjoyed very much. It was a great opportunity to refresh the spirit and strengthen bonds with other priests. It was a time of prayer and reflection, presentations, and discussions. The main theme of this year Convocation was ‘One in Christ’. There is no doubt, priests in Chicago come from different ethnic groups, dif-ferent backgrounds, and different generations. Have you ever thought about the different ways of seminary formation and the different spirituality of priests depending on generation? One of the workshops was to look closer at

different pastoral schools of priests. In general, we can see the pre-Vatican generation, the Vati-can generation, the post-Vatican generation, and millennials. Events of the civic history in the world: Popes of the Catholic Church, liturgical reforms and their implementation, accent on tradi-tional devotions, or social justice issues, and many other factors, have an impact on the spirituali-ty of priests and are typical for one or another generation of priests. Can you imagine that every generation has also its own kind of liturgical hymnals? Ask a priest what his favorite liturgical hymn is, and you can detect the generation he belongs to and the spirituality he represents. And we all are ‘One in Christ’. Is that not wonderful? What about our Parish? Were there any two identical priests who were a part of Our Lady, Moth-er of the Church? I don’t think so, and I don’t think it will ever happen. What about our parish community and different spiritualities of parishioners, different backgrounds, different ethnic roots etc.? And we are all one in Christ. We as a Parish are a family with our own history and spirituality and our own identity. I know many of you say you don’t live close to this church, but love to be part of it. I would say we are a little flock, and because of it we are more a community of Jesus’ disciples. I hope that this coming week will be a good time to reflect and thank God for all His gifts, for the Independence of the United States, for freedom, and peace, for great history, and people who came to this land with dreams, great visions, and dedication.

God Bless America!

Happy 4th of July!

Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

“Bundle Sunday” July 14-15 When the Chicago office of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brings its trailer to a parish parking lot on the weekend, to receive donations of household goods, small appliances, clothing, and shoes, they call it “Bundle Sunday.” The trailer will be here in two weeks, on Saturday, July 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday, July 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Receipts will be provided.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 1, 2018

PARISH OFFICES CLOSED Parish Offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th in observance of the Holiday. Offices will re-open on Thursday, July 5th at 9:00 am and remain open until 4:00 pm.

Newly Baptized On June 24, 2018

our parish community welcomed

Joseph Anthony Losacco

Into God’s family and the Church of Christ Je-sus through the sacrament of Baptism. We ex-tend our congratulations and wishes for many blessings to Joseph, and to his parents, godpar-

ents and family on this special occasion.

Book of the Month - July 8 Next Sunday, come to Hayes Center from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. as we dis-cuss A Memory for Wonders; A True Story, by Mother Veronica Namoyo Le Goulard, P.C.C. The book is less than 200 pages, so even with the Fourth of July holiday, you still have time to get it and start reading. But if you are not able to read the book, yet would like to hear the discussion, you are most welcome. Coffee and break-fast treats will be provided.

ADORATION Friday, July 6th

It is this First Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can pray in Polish from 1 to 2 p.m., and the Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed at 3 p.m., followed by Benediction. Pope Saint John Paul II said in Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland, on September 29, 1979, “The visit to the Blessed Sacrament is a great treasure of the Catholic faith. It nourishes social love and gives us opportunities for adoration and thanksgiving, for reparation and supplication.” Blessed Pope Paul VI wrote in Mysterium Fidei, September 3, 1965, from number 67, “Anyone who has a special devotion to the sacred Eucharist and who tries to repay Christ’s infinite love for us with an eager and unselfish love of his own, will experience and fully un-derstand—and this will bring great delight and benefit to his soul—just how precious is a life hidden with Christ in God and just how worthwhile it is to carry on a conversation with Christ, for there is nothing more consoling on earth, nothing more efficacious for progress along the paths of holiness.” Even if you can only stay for a few minutes, do not miss this monthly opportunity to adore Je-sus in the Blessed Sacrament.

From the Desk of the Music Director How We Do What We Do:

Planning for Services When preparing for the weekend services, selecting the music takes up a good portion of time. The Music Ministry wished to share this information so that we as a congregation can better understand how the musical selections help in our learning and connection to the teachings of Jesus present during each Mass. We will have our final article in the bulletin next week. We hope you enjoy learning how we do what we do! Closing Hymn – The closing hymn has two selections available.

Option 1: A good choice for the closing hymn is a song to solidify the overall teachings of the readings for the Mass. Oftentimes, if we choose a song about the readings for the Gathering Hymn, we will try to find a hymn for the Closing that is related or similar in text and sound. Option 2: The second option is to choose a hymn that calls for the congregation and pa-rishioners to go and spread the Word throughout the world. It is a reminder that even though we have learned from today’s teachings, there are others who also need our help in learning more about God. This option helps us to remember we, the children of God, have a duty to be the voice that spreads his teachings.

The Music Ministry appreciated all the input given by our congregation regarding favorite mu-sical selections. Please listen for these selections throughout the summer. Thank you! Josephine Stracek [email protected] (773)-625-3369, ext. 33

Peter’s Pence Collection - July 1 Today is the Peter Pence Collection , a worldwide collec-tion that supports the charitable works of Pope Frances. Funds for the collection help victims of war, oppressions, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.
