SONGOF THE GOAT

widzom odkrywać własną wrażliwość i humanizm.

Established in 1996 by Grzegorz Bral and Anna Zubrzycki, Song of the Goat Theatre (Teatr Pieśń Kozła) has develo-ped an international reputation as one of Europe’s most innovative training-ba-sed theatre companies, committed to researching what makes theatre distinc-tive among other art-forms. From its base in Wroclaw, Poland, the Company constantly develops its approaches and performances with the aim of unlocking

theatre’s power to offer audiences a pro-found experience that can reaffirm their own sensitivity and humanity. Song of the Goat Theatre’s ever-evolving training, rehearsal and performance process is treated as laboratories, enabling the Company to research the craft of the actor and director and to develop new techniques, performance languages and work styles. A distinctive element of the Company’s practice is a search for

connection, meeting and openness as the seeds of authentic experience. This commitment to connection denotes clear information on the development of each new training approach, which always seeks to integrate movement, voice, song, and text, creating performance that has an inherent musicality and connects with the audience on a sensory level.

Podczas festiwalu spektakl uhonoro-wany został aż trzema prestiżowymi nagrodami: Fringe First, Herald Archangel oraz Musical Theatre Matters Award. Pieśni Leara były także najwyżej ocenianym spektaklem biorącym udział w Festiwalu w 2012 roku.

Songs of Lear is a non-linear dramatic event that shows the world of subtle energies and rhythms that govern Shakespeare’s tragedy. The ensemble members have chosen crucial scenes from King Lear to weave a story out of gestures, words and mu-sic. Each song is a starting point for another dramatic poem. Here the music becomes a character, it embodies relationships and events. The creative process has been divided into several phases: preparing the concert, dramatizing the songs (an orato-rio), creating movement and visual structures, integrating text, music and movement and finally molding the performance into a mature shape. Songs of Lear is a constantly evolving creative research project in which our audience may witness a very inti-mate artistic process. Songs of Lear had its international premie-re during Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in August 2012, where it received three prestigious awards: Scotsman Fringe First, Herald Archangel and Musical Theatre Matters Special Award. Songs of Lear was the overall highest ranked performance during the 2012 Festival.

MUZYKA.

Spektakl Portrety Wiśniowego sadu w reżyserii Grzegorza Brala i muzycznej interpretacji Guya Pearsona i Macieja Ry-chłego to opowieść o raju utraconym. Ty-tułowy roztrwoniony Wiśniowy sad z dra-matu Czechowa, symbol unicestwionych wartości, poetycko mitologizuje się w pamięci. We wspomnieniach dawny świat przeistacza się w nieosiągalną doskona-łość. Reżyser snuje historię bohaterów za pomocą gestów, ruchu, tańca, na pierw-szym planie pozostaje jednak zawsze mu-zyka. Kreuje relacje, definiuje zdarzenia i bohaterów, tworząc w połączeniu z liryką Osipa Mandelsztama i Anny Achmatowej wyszukane poematy muzyczne.

Portraits of The Cherry Orchard is based on Anton Chekhov’s drama The Cherry Orchard and is directed by Grzegorz Bral. The musical inter-pretation of Anton Chekhov’s drama has been composed by Guy Pearson and Maciej Rychły. It is the story of a lost paradise in which the eponymo-usly squandered Cherry Orchard is symbolic of spoiled values becoming poetical myth. The characters’ memo-ries of a former existence become an unreachable perfection. The Director has created for each character a story which is expressed through individual gesture, movement and dance. Under-lined by an ever present musical score, relations are formed, actions and cha-racters defined and using Osip Man-delstam’s and Anna Akhmatova’s lyri-cal poetry, he creates notable musical poems.

Reaching the roots of the Scottish culture, utilizing the knowled-ge of music and oral traditions of these areas, director Grzegorz Bral has created an entirely new musical experience. He invi-ted the eminent jazz vocalist Anna Maria Jopek and composers Maciej Rychły and Jean-Claude Acquaviva to co-work on this production. Archaic notes from the Na h-Eileanan Siar and the Gaelic language were put in a new musical context. Return to the Voice was created on the basis of archival records and source materials obtained during research expedition which took place in December 2012 (Fort William, Isle of Skye, Edinburgh, Glas-gow) and in September 2013 (Lewis and Skye islands). Return to the Voice was commissioned by Eleven and Summerhall in as-sociation with the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh supported by Creative Scotland, Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Polish Cultural Institute.

Brave Festival provides a platform for marginalized cultures to share the artistic traditions that are deep-rooted in their way of life.

Brave Festival is celebrating and supporting the rich traditions of vanishing cultures from around the world. The Festival was launched in 2005 and, from that time, through an annual programme of performances, documentary fil-ms, music events, exhibitions and discussions, Brave Festival provides a platform for margi-nalized cultures to share the artistic traditions that are deep-rooted in their way of life. The festival encourages expression and dialogue through performances that provide rare in-sight into the experience of diverse cultures. Each year Brave Festival explores themes that are inspired by its visiting artists and their unique voices. By giving artists from margi-nalized cultures a voice and opportunity to engage in conversation with international au-dience and artists, Brave Festival is helping to

empower visiting communities to reaffirm and advocate for their own cultural identity. Such is the case of some presenting artists who need to garner support towards building their own cultural centres. Brave Festival provides direct benefits to the marginalised and vulnerable communities it aims to support by donating re-venues from ticket sales to ROKPA Internatio-nal – the charity which actively helps countries and regions in need of humanitarian aid whilst respecting cultural values.

jest to niepowtarzalna okazja, by prze-żyć niezwykłe wydarzenie artystyczne. Wszyscy otrzymują wielką lek-cję otwartości i wrażliwości.

Brave Kids is an educational pro-ject consisting of such actions, which enable learning through art and creating something with a group. The project was launched as a part of Brave Festival in 2009. For three weeks, the children par-ticipate in workshops, where they improve their skills and exchange them according to the principle Children teach children. The ef-fect of the workshops is the final performance, where over a hun-dred of children representing va-rious cultures perform together on one stage. This is also a proof that – no matter how complica-ted the adult world is – children of different social and materials status can work together. For the Polish audience this is an oppor-tunity to experience an exceptio-

nal artistic event. One, which is unique in the world. An impor-tant aspect of Brave Kids is that local community is included in the project. Every year, children come and stay at Polish families, who offer them not only a place to sleep and food, but also their time and heart. Everybody re-ceives a great lesson of openness and sensitivity.
