where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1 Cor 15:54-55) Praise Jesus, “the Resur-rection and the Life”! (Jn 11:25) A few years ago, I celebrated the Easter Vigil at an inner-city church about to be closed. After the church’s lights were turned on following the blessing of the new fire and the lighting of the Easter candle, I was shocked. There were al-most as many people in the small choir as in the rest of the congregation. It broke my heart to see this parish in ruins — a parish which previously had two assistant pastors and a school taught by ten nuns. Nevertheless,

A LIFE WORTHLIVING

we celebrated the Easter Vigil. We celebrated by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). Although we looked and felt dead rather than alive in Christ, we praised God as if the church had been filled.

On this first day of Easter, many of us, like the women at Jesus’ tomb, are “bewildered and trem-bling” (Mk 16:8). Right now, we don’t look ris-en and victorious. Our lives are “hidden now with Christ in God” (Col 3:3). However, the fact is that through Baptism we “have been raised up in company with Christ” (Col 3:1). Therefore, by faith let us live our Bap-tisms and be witnesses for the risen Christ (see Acts 10:41, 42). Alleluia! He is risen!

NIEDZIELNA REFLEKSJA NAD SŁOWEM BOŻYM ...

Alleluja! Dzisiejszej nocy zmartwychwstał Pan. Śmierć została pokonana, ciemność rozproszona, zło i grzech straciły władzę nad człowiekiem. Dlatego ta noc nazywa się Wielką Nocą, Uroczystością nad Uroczystościami, Świętem nad Świętami, do którego zmierzają wszystkie inne święta lub z niego wypływają. Ta noc jest tak ważna, że gdyby ją usunąć z kalen-darza, świat stanąłby na głowie. Przed laty na ekra-nach amerykańskich kin ukazał się film „Godziny ciemności” na podstawie powieści pod tytułem „Oścień śmierci”. Uczony archeolog udaje się do Jerozolimy, aby jeszcze raz zbadać sprawę Jezusa z Nazaretu. Szuka grobu Je-zusa i odnajduje jakiś niezi-dentyfikowany dotychczas grób, którego położenie i forma zdają w pełni odpowiadać ewangelicz-nym przekazom. Z jedną tylko różnicą: grób nie jest pusty! Odnaleziono w nim szczątki człowieka, pochowanego niespełna 2000 lat temu, mężczyzny w średnim wieku. Stwi-erdzono ślady męki poprzedzającej agonię: nakłucia na czaszce, ślady wbijania gwoździ w kościach dłoni i stóp, uszkodzenie żeber na jednym boku, doko-nane prawdopodobnie pchnięciem włóczni…

Szokująca diagnoza nasuwa się sama: Chrys-tus nie zmartwychwstał! Chrześcijaństwo jest wielką pomyłką! Ta wieść idzie w świat: telewizja, radio, wszystkie dzienniki podają wiadomość: Chrys-tus nie Zmartwychwstał! Na ekranach telewizorów rysuje się koszmarny obraz świata: Gasną lampki przy tabernaku-lach, z których usuwa się Najświętszy Sakrament… Kościoły zamienia się na garaże lub sale koncer-towe… Ekipy porządkowe usuwają przydrożne krzyże… Rozwiązują się zgromadzenia zakonne… Księża się żenią… Z dalekich krajów wracają misjonarze… Z byle jak-iego powodu rozchodzą się małżeństwa… Nie ma chętnych do pracy w dom-ach opieki… Chorych og-arnia rozpacz i beznadzie-ja… Świat ogarniają „godziny ciemności”!!! Zaskakujący jest jed-nak epilog tego filmu: Na ekranach pojawia się reżyser filmu i wyjaśnia – Oto tak wyglądał by świat, gdyby Chrystus nie Zmartwychwstał, gdyby Jego grób nie był pusty. Ta historia, to fikcja. Chciałem pokazać współczesnemu człowiekowi tę właśnie prawdę. Chciałem przypomnieć, jak bard-zo prawda o zmart-wychwstaniu Chrystusa ukształtowała nasz sposób

myślenia, wartościowania, działania, jak bardzo wrośnięta jest w naszą podświadomość. Szukamy wciąż przekonywujących dowodów na zmart-wychwstanie Chrystusa, gdy tymczasem wys-tarczy zadać sobie py-tanie: Jak wyglądałby świat, gdyby Chrystus nie zmartwychwstał? Ale choć jest faktem, że tej nocy Chrystus zmartwychwstał i opuścił grób, to świat dzisiaj żyje tak, jakby ten film nie był fikcją, jakby zmartwychwstania nie było!!! Wiara bowiem w zmartwychwstanie to nie tylko wiara w to, że i my zmartwychwstaniemy… Zmartwychwstanie jest przede wszystkim dla naszej doczesności i my już tutaj na ziemi mamy zmartwychwstać! Jezus chce nam dać nowe oczy na świat, abyśmy widzieli miłość Boga. Jezus chce nam dać nowe serce, abyśmy umieli kochać bez wzajemności, nawet wrogów. To zmartwych-wstanie dokonuje się mocą Boga całkowicie za darmo pod jednym warunkiem – Wiara! To ona otwiera nas na Boga, który może w nas działać i okazywać nam swoją miłość. Uwi-erz zatem, że Chrystus zmartwychwstał, że chce zmartwychwstać także w Tobie i zmienić Twoje życie!!!

W każdą niedzielę ist-nieje możliwość skor-zystania z Sakramentu Pokuty od godz. 4:15pm. Zapraszamy do regularnej spowiedzi i do pełnego uczestnictwa we Mszy św. Msza św. o godz. 5pm.

Słowa wdzięczności

Składam z serca płynące podziękowania wszyst-kim, którzy przyczynili się do duchowego przeżycia czasu Wielkiego Postu, a w szczególności: Pani Organistce – Maji, Chóro-wi Dorosłych, Chórowi Dziecięcemu, Grupie „Domowego Kościoła”, wszystkim ministran-tom i liturgicznej służbie ołtarza, lektorom i kanto-rom. Słowa wdzięczności należą się także tym wszystkim, którzy uczest-niczyli w Nabożeństwach Drogi Krzyżowej i Gor-zkich Żali, jak również w ceremoniach Triduum Paschalnego: Wielkiego Czwartku, Wielkiego Piątku i Wielkiej Soboty. Niech ten czas spędzony na modlitwie i adoracji Chrystusa cierpiącego zaowocuje codzienną miłością do Boga i do sie-bie nawzajem. Bóg Wam zapłać za Wasz przykład żywej wiary!

Len życzymy Wam wszystkim jak również Waszym Rodzinom wielu łask Bożych od Chrystusa Zmartwychwstałego, a szczególnie głębokiej wiary, którą żyjcie na co dzień, tej wiary, którą będziecie zaszczepiać w sercach Waszych dzieci, tej wiary, którą będziecie pociągać innych do Boga i wreszcie tej wiary, która poz-woli Wam kiedyś z m a r t w y c h w s t a ć i cieszyć się Bo-giem w wieczności. Życzymy również byście byli mocni faktem zmartwych-wstania i dawali temu świadectwo wszędzie tam gdzie żyjecie i pracujecie, ale także każdej Niedzieli, uczestnicząc we Mszy św., która jest właśnie pamiątką Zmart-wychwstania Chrys-tusa. Niech Chrystus Pan, Zwycięzca grze-chu i śmierci darzy Was swoją miłością, a Wy odpowiadajcie na tę miłość dobrocią serca, radością życia, codziennym przebac-zeniem i modlitwą serca. „To znów Wszechmogący Panie, czcimy Twoje Zmart-wychwstanie”.

This is an opportunity for our children to learn about the life of Our Lord contained in the New Testament in a way that they can readily un-derstand.

Beetle Drive19th Perth Brownies

and Rainbows are cel-ebrating some signifi-cant birthdays this year – Brownies started in St John’s 75 years ago and Rainbows started 25 years ago.

To raise funds, and to help us celebrate, we are having a Beetle drive on 22nd April 2016 from 7pm in St John’s Church Hall. Cost is £3 for an adult and £1 for child.

This lets you play the game, a cup of tea / juice and some biscuits / cakes. There will be a raffle and a cake and candy stall.

Tickets are avail-able from Brownies, Rainbows or from Miss Monaghan in St John’s Academy as well as at the door.

You will be served by the young people preparing to travel to Poland this summer to meet other young people from around the world. Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of fizz and welcome canapés; a raffle ticket and entertainment from our talented musicians. You then pay, in addition, what you think the meal itself is worth at the end of the evening. There will be wine on the table.

The Church through-out the world echoes the angel’s message to the women: “Do not be afraid! I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised… Come, see the place where he lay” ( Mt 28:5-6).

This is the culmination of the Gospel, it is the Good News par excel-lence: Jesus, who was crucified, is risen! This event is the basis of our faith and our hope. If Christ were not raised, Christianity would lose its very meaning; the whole mission of the Church would lose its impulse, for this is the point from which it first set out and continues to set out ever anew.

Triumph over HatredThe message which

Christians bring to the world is this: Jesus, Love incarnate, died on the cross for our sins, but God the Father raised him and made him the Lord of life and death. In Jesus, love has tri-umphed over hatred, mercy over sinfulness, goodness over evil, truth over falsehood, life over death.

That is why we tell everyone: “Come and see!” In every human sit-uation, marked by frailty, sin and death, the Good News is no mere mat-ter of words, but a testi-mony to unconditional and faithful love: it is

about leaving ourselves behind and encounter-ing others, being close to those crushed by life’s troubles, sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick, elderly and the outcast… “Come and see!”: Love is more powerful, love gives life, love makes hope blos-som in the wilderness.

The Risen LordWith this joyful cer-

tainty in our hearts, to-day we turn to you, risen Lord!

Help us to seek you and to find you, to realize that we have a Father and are not orphans; that we can love and adore you.

Help us to overcome the scourge of hunger, aggravated by conflicts and by the immense wastefulness for which we are often responsible.

Enable us to protect the vulnerable, espe-cially children, women and the elderly, who are at times exploited and abandoned.

Enable us to care for our brothers and sisters struck by the Ebola epi-demic in Guinea Cona-kry, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and to care for those suffering from so many other diseases which are also spread through neglect and dire poverty.

Comfort all those who cannot celebrate this Easter with their loved ones because they have been unjustly torn from their affections, like the

many persons, priests and laity, who in various parts of the world have been kidnapped.

Comfort those who have left their own lands to migrate to places of-fering hope for a better future and the possibil-ity of living their lives in dignity and, not in-frequently, of freely pro-fessing their faith.

We ask you, Lord Je-sus, to put an end to all war and every conflict, whether great or small, ancient or recent.

We pray in a particular way for Syria, beloved Syria, that all those suf-fering the effects of the conflict can receive needed humanitarian aid and that neither side will again use deadly force, especially against the de-fenseless civil population, but instead boldly negoti-ate the peace long awaited and long overdue!

Bring ComfortJesus, Lord of glory,

we ask you to comfort the victims of fratricidal acts of violence in Iraq and to sustain the hopes raised by the resumption of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

We beg for an end to the conflicts in the Cen-tral African Republic and a halt to the brutal ter-rorist attacks in parts of Nigeria and the acts of violence in South Sudan.

We ask that hearts be turned to reconciliation and fraternal concord in Venezuela.

By your resurrection, which this year we cel-ebrate together with the Churches that follow the Julian calendar, we ask you to enlighten and in-spire the initiatives that promote peace in Ukraine so that all those involved, with the support of the international community, will make every effort to prevent violence and, in

a spirit of unity and dia-logue, chart a path for the country’s future. On this day, may they be able to proclaim, as brothers and sisters, that Christ is risen, Khrystos voskres!

Lord, we pray to you for all the peoples of the earth: you who have con-quered death, grant us your life, grant us your peace!
