If you prefer a more modern camping experience this is the place for you. Starve features 55 class "A" campsites each with electricity, picnic table, grill, and access to modern comfort stations. There are 114 class "B" campsites with everything mentioned above except electricity. There is also a fish cleaning station, dump station, 3 launching ramps, nature center, 2 shelter houses, swimming beach, boat rental, and play areas. We are handicapped accessible. There are no reservations taken for camping. State Forest

Jackson-Washington State Forestencompasses more than 17,000 acres inJackson and Washington counties in theheart of southern Indiana. This part ofthe state contains unique topographyknown as the "knobs" region, and hasscenic views from Skyline Drive andsome breathtaking hiking trails. Themain forest area, including the forestoffice and campgrounds, is located 2.5miles southeast of Brownstown on StateRoad 250. The majority of the land thatnow makes up the state forest waspurchased by the State of Indiana in the1930s and 1950s. The Heritage Trustprogram, using funds from the sale ofenvironmental license plates, has madepossible the acquisition of additionalstate forest land.

policy of multiple use in order to obtainbenefits of recreation, forest products,watershed protection, wildlife habitat,and aesthetics. The growth and harvestof timber is planned to be compatiblewith ecosystem management, and toretain the watershed protection thatforests naturally provide. PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES

Wearing helmets and safety equipment is highlyrecommended.

Stay on designated bike trails only.

Only non-motorized bicycles are permitted.

These are shared trails. Ride carefully!(Bike riders should yield right of way to others)

Please try to avoid skidding on downslopes and wheelspinning on upslopes.

Avoid riding trails after saturating rains or snowmelt.

Overnight camping along bike trails is not permitted.

Maximum speed is 15 M.P.H.

We recommend wearing orange during hunting season.

Welcome to the mountain bike trails on Jackson-Washington State Forest and Starve Hollow S.R.A. Thetrails are located within two miles of each other andhave easy access from parking areas. Starve Hollow'strail begins at the east side of the "B" campground andmakes a loop behind the lake. The rider has the choiceof going south to County Road 275 W or back to thecampground. Follow the bike symbols on your rightas you leave the camping area, at half way the postswill be on your left with the campground symbolsindicating you are heading back to the campground.The trail is 3.65 miles long. Mountain bike trails areshared with hikers.

Load up your bike and head east on Starve HollowRoad to ge t to the o ther b ike t ra i l on Jackson-Washington. You will travel approximately three mileson the county road to get to the trail head. Look forthe wood sign pointing towards Skyline Drive on theleft side of the road. The parking lot is just off of thecounty road. You will be sharing the trail with horseriders and others. Please be courteous to the other trailusers. The trail is broken down into three colored loops.Again, bike decals on the right indicate that you areleaving the parking area. The letter P for parking lotwill be on a brown post to your left when you reach thehalfway point of a loop and indicate that you areheading back to the parking lot. The three colored loopsare blue, green, and orange. The total distance for theloops is 8.5 miles. These trail loops are difficult andwill take many hours to complete.
