PREFACE

I am pleased to present you with the fortieth edition of the Statistical Yearbook of the Regions Poland. The publication includes a comprehensive set of statistical data, characterising living standards of the society and the state of the economy in spatial approach.

The information presented in the Yearbook was selected according to its usefulness for com-parisons and analyses of regional diversity of phenomena. Selected economic categories are presented in a dynamic way as well as in relation to the national and the European Union aver-ages. The statistical information is enriched with maps and graphs.

The thematic arrangement of the publication has remained unchanged. Due to changing the subregions breakdown in Poland, in table Selected data on subregions (NTS 3) in 2014 data are presented according to the new version entered into force on 1 I 2015. A review table Selected data on subregions (NTS 3) in breakdown in force till 31 XII 2014 as well as a review table Selected data on powiats are published in electronic format. A broad set of information in territorial breakdown is also available in the Local Data Bank on the CSO website www.stat.gov.pl/bdlen.

We would like to draw your attention to changes and supplements implemented in the current version of the Yearbook, among others: number of resident population (residents) based on the international definition of the resi-

dence of population, data regarding tertiary education students in mathematics, science and technology fields of

study according to the International Classification of Fields and Training (ISCED-F 2013), results of election of the President of the Republic of Poland held on 10 and 24 V 2015 and

elections to organs of local governments units held on 16 and 30 XI 2014.

Presenting this edition of the Statistical Yearbook of the Regions Poland 2015, I would liketo express my sincere gratitude to all the persons and institutions for their cooperation and sug-gestions, which contribute to the development of the system of statistical publications and com-pilations in spatial approach.
