Title: CRITERIA RANKING IN ASSESSING TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS

CAPABILITY IN FURNITURE MANUFACTURING

Source: SUMARSKI LIST

Volume: 137

Issue: 5-6

Pages: 279-285

Published: 2013

Abstract: Today's trend of world market globalization, competition and ever greater demands

of customers have highlighted the quality of products and services as the key factor in

conquering the market. It all impacts wood processing and furniture manufacturing in the

Republic of Croatia due to its constant orientation to export as the only way of achieving

market competitiveness.

Research polygons were two factories of board furniture. Relevant data for considered

products were gathered over 1.5 years, and then processed to determine factors with strongest

influence on the process capability of each polygon. The criteria for determining

technological processes capability were selected using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)

method. Research has shown that the most influencing criteria on technological process

capability are human, material and machine. Based on obtained results, this paper is a

contribution to the discussion on traditional and modern quality assurance models, and

represents scientific grounds for implementing a suitable stability and capability model.

Abstract: The article deals with the different aspects of the knowledge management. The first

part of the article is the analysis of the knowledge management on the governmental level -

specifically the Slovak Republic knowledge economy strategy Minerva 2.0. It is focused on

the impact of this strategy on the four main areas: innovations, human resources, research and

development and information and communication technologies with the emphasis on the

industrial enterprises. As a source for the analysis have been used data from the Statistical

Office of the Slovak Republic and EU surveys and reports like: Innovation Union Scoreboard

2011, The Global Information Technology Report 2012, Innovation Union Competitiveness

report 2011 and others. The results of the analysis brought up several problem areas:

financing of the research and development, integration of the Slovak research and

development in the EU research area, disproportion between the number of the technical

sciences and theory graduates and industrial enterprises demands, participation and in EU

research programmes like FP7. Second part of the article pay attention to the knowledge

management maturity level in Slovak industrial enterprises. The assessment was oriented on

the culture, structure and technologies. For those areas was designed the questionnaire for the

qualitative research of the knowledge management maturity in Slovak industrial enterprises.

The article contains selected questions oriented on the knowledge strategy implementation, C

level management participation in the knowledge management strategy implementation,

orientation of the innovation activities, knowledge areas and organizational culture

orientation. Results of the knowledge management maturity level in Slovak industrial

enterprises does not allowed us to define correlations between the selected knowledge

management areas. The main conclusion from the presented analyse is the disparity between

the strategy and its implementation. There is not a clear direction between the knowledge

strategy, knowledge areas, innovation activities and organizational culture. The knowledge

management implementation in industrial enterprises does not have stable pillars to support

the incorporation of the knowledge management process into the business process.

Material demand forecasting: An ERP system perspective

(2014) Applied Mechanics and Materials, 527, pp. 311-314. a University of Zielona Góra, Poland

b Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Institute of Industrial Engineering,

Management and Quality, Slovakia

Abstract

This paper investigates various problems associated with the parameter specification for

material requirements planning (MRP) in a typical ERP system. The choice of a suitable MRP

procedure and its parameters can reduce excessive quantities of materials and, consequently,

cost. The proposed approach is dedicated for MRP procedure based on the forecasting of

material demand and inventory that can be obtained with the use of techniques for nonlinear

function identification, such as fuzzy-neural system and neural networks. An example is

presented which compares the different forecasting models for material demand and

inventory. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Abstract

Nowadays, a considerable number of enterprises develop new products using an Enterprise

Resource Planning (ERP) system. One of the modules of a typical ERP system concerns

project management. Functionalities of this module consist of defining resources, company

calendars, sequence of project tasks, task duration etc. in order to obtain a project schedule.

These parameters can be defined by the employees according to their knowledge, or they can

be connected with data from previous completed projects. The paper investigates using an

ERP database to identify critical factors, i.e. variables that significantly influence on new

product development. Project duration and cost is estimated by a fuzzy neural system that

uses data of completed projects stored in an ERP system. © 2013 Polish Information

Abstract

A necessary condition of effective functioning of human resources management in an

organisation is the creation of adequate organisational conditions including the existence of a

human resources management department, its size, composition and responsibility, which are

formed following particular conditions of the given organisation. Competitive environment of

organisations operating in Slovakia and Czech Republic is growing with the process of world

economy globalisation, and it brings the need of flexibility in management, and therefore we

have to get used to changes also in the sphere of human resources management, and learn to

cope with new impulses and situations. At present, that predominantly includes spreading

effects of global financial and economic crisis, influencing all spheres of life in Slovakia and

in Czech Republic too. Handling this situation presupposes flexibility in assessment of

changes in environment where organisations operate, ability to detect all positive as well as

negative impacts and situations, and formulation of measures to enhance their own position

sensibly and cautiously. Due to the need of focusing of organisations on comprehensive

arrangement of human resources management, in questionnaire researches, we focused on

finding out whether and to what extent organisations operating in Slovakia (n = 340) and in

Czech Republic (n = 109) focus on human resources management arrangement. The objective

of the article is to compare results in the sphere of human resources in organisations operating

in Slovak and Czech Republics. The results show that 67% organisations in Slovakia and only

43% in the Czech Republic had a human resources management department which realised

followed human resources management functions and personnel strategy.

and evaluated on daily basis. The nowadays crucial philosophy pertaining to process

improvement in terms of quality assurance and significant cost reduction is that: "The quality

must be manufactured and not controlled up". In order to be successful on the market place it

is necessary to orchestrate, implement and carry out an advanced production quality assurance

system with appropriate tools of course accompanying with previously precisely organized

prototype and preserial stages of production. The article deals with a proposal of adequate

methodology and the experimental implementation of quality matrix into manufacturing

process assurance in order to improve a quality level and the whole QCD.© 2013 Published

Polach, P. Utilization of multibody simulations at the trolleybus development

(2013) Manufacturing Technology, 13 (4), pp. 515-520.

Section of Materials and Mechanical Engineering Research, Research and Testing Institute

Pilsen, Czech Republic

Abstract

šKODA VÝZKUM s.r.o. (now VÝzkumnÝ a zkušebnÍ ústav Plzeň s.r.o.) cooperated on the

development of the NEOPLAN DMA low-floor articulated trolleybus intended for the Boston

city (the United States). Multibody modelsand finite element models of the trolleybus were

utilized in the stage of the vehicle design. The multibody modelsof the trolleybus were created

in the Alaska simulation tool and the simulations (running over a large road unevenness, start,

braking and driving through a bend) were aimed at determining forces acting in the

trolleybussuspension elements and radius rods. Time histories of the forces calculated using

multibody models were used asthe input data of the trolleybus finite element models.

Utilizing the finite element models the critical places of thetrolleybus body structure from the

point of view of high stresses were determined. At the measurement with thereal trolleybus

prototype these places were provided with strain gauges. © 2013 Published by Manufacturing

Abstract

Kaizen strategy is the most important Japanese management concept. Supporters of this by all

means an interesting management philosophy consider it as a basis for achieving success by

the company. The analyzed company X Stainless motivated by others companies market

successes decided to deepen the knowledge of the Kaizen philosophy, which resulted in the

implementation of this method of management in its ranks. The essence of Kaizen is to

change ways of thinking and way of production management. Underlying this theory, there is

the gradual but constant improvement of the status quo with the active involvement of every

management employee and the rest of the company workers. Kaizen educates employees

towards finding ways to better perform their duties. Performance of work is closely connected

with the observance of standards and the introduction of small improvements in order to

continue its improvement.

Squeeze casting results of aluminium alloys

(2013) Manufacturing Technology, 13 (1), pp. 73-79. Cited 4 times.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Engineering Technology, Technical

University of Liberec, Czech Republic

Abstract

The paper deals with a squeeze casting process. This process added a new knowledge in to

research in the branch by crystallization of aluminium alloys. Due to this purpose there was

designed a special tool, which was placed on hydraulic press. The squeeze casting was carried

out on an aluminium alloy (AlSi12, with 12 % silicon). The main aim was study of the

aluminium alloy structure, which was established at a pressure of crystallizing melt. In this

way of the material crystallization was produced a truncated cone part with the larger the base

(ø 100 mm × 105 mm). The structure of specimens was monitored on a light microscope and

was evaluated by means of software NIS Elements. The main results of the pressure melt to

fine crystalline structure, which is represented fine dendrites both on surface and in an interior

parts of the processed material. The influence of this pressure on the mechanical properties

was monitored too. © 2013 Published by Manufacturing Technology.

Criteria ranking in assessing technological process capability in furniture manufacturing

[Rangiranje kriterija pri utvrdivanju sposobnosti tehnološkog procesa u proizvodnji

namještaja] (2013) Sumarski List, 137 (5-6), pp. 279-285.

Šumarski Fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Svetošimunska 25, 10002 Zagreb, Croatia

Abstract

Today's trend of world market globalization, competition and ever greater demands of

customers have highlighted the quality of products and services as the key factor in

conquering the market. It all impacts wood processing and furniture manufacturing in the

Republic of Croatia due to its constant orientation to export as the only way of achieving

market competitiveness. Research polygons were two factories of board furniture. Relevant

data for considered products were gathered over 1.5 years, and then processed to determine

factors with strongest influence on the process capability of each polygon. The criteria for

determining technological processes capability were selected using Analytic Hierarchy

Process (AHP) method. Research has shown that the most influencing criteria on

technological process capability are human, material and machine. Based on obtained results,

this paper is a contribution to the discussion on traditional and modern quality assurance

models, and represents scientific grounds for implementing a suitable stability and capability

model.

The use of fractography in the analysis of cracking after formed workpiece blank mechanical

machining from the ALCuSnBi alloy

(2012) Manufacturing Technology, 12 (13), .

Faculty of Production Technology and Mamagement, Department of Technology and

Material Engineering, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, Na Okraji

1001, 400 01 Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic

Abstract

The aim of the performed works was research on the causes of formed aluminum blanks

cracking in the range of the AlCuSnBi alloy rods where cracks appear during mechanical

machining (turning, drilling) of this range to the final part. AlCuSnBi alloy was invented as a

substitute for aluminum machining alloys Al - Cu type alloyed with lead. For the alloy were

performed qualitative and quantitative fractographic analysis of the fracture surface after

machining in order to determine possible causes cracking of the material and thus his lack of

strength during machining. Part of this paper is to the overall theoretical analysis of the issue.

This paper clearly documents that fractographic analysis methods can significantly and to the

extent required to provide answers to the causes of insufficient material strength during

machining. Also points out the possible causes of cracks in this alloy during machining and

ways to eliminate them.
