June 2012-Present: Savannah cement ltd, Athi-River.

Process Engineer

The job entails evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve

sustainability and develop best practices within the production process.

I am currently responsible for;

Evaluating and improving on processes in manufacturing systems.

Maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates,

efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.

Developing innovative solutions.

Improving process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality

standards.

Developing and implementing systems that optimize all phases of production process.

Assessing processes, taking measurements and interpreting data.

As a Production engineer took part in the startup activities of the grass root cement plant from

kiln, mill to the packing plant.

I have headed different sections of production department throughout the career in the Cement

plant.

By continuous study and trials improved the outputs of the mills in the cement grinding circuits

by 30%.

Solved the earlier failure problems of the bricks and castables in the pozzolana dryer and

improved the life by 80%.

April 2009 –June 2012: Mombasa Cement Ltd, Athi-River Plant.

Shift Coordinator.

The job entails coordinating production activities and managing teams within assigned shift in order to achieve

the production targets within quality specifications and specific heat consumption/ alternative fuels addition

to the kilns.

I was responsible for;

1. Shift Management

Shift Turn-Over. Entails conducting proper shift turn-over by determining plant status at the start

and end of shift and identifying abnormalities or any unresolved problems to be communicated to

the next shift and situations where information should be passed on to higher levels.

Planning & Resources Management. Entails determination of materials requirement based on

production trend and other relevant factors and guarantee adherence to the planned production plan

as per manpower and materials resources.

Reports. Entails completion of all required documentation promptly and according to procedures

and ensuring that any abnormalities and unresolved problems are documented in the shift report.

Inspections Management. Entails conducting regularly the routine roving inspections following

established checklists and identifying situations where minor repairs can be carried out by

production and coordinate with the Maintenance Department.

Stocks & Delivery Management. Entails managing stockpiling of raw materials and silo levels for

cement production and to oversee packing and shipping equipment to ensure smooth operations.

2. Production Management

Obtaining periodic laboratory tests results and analyze by comparing to standards and targets and

take appropriate actions.

Monitoring throughput, identifying opportunities and decide on changes in operating parameters

to optimize output.

Ensuring that procedures are followed for the start-up and stop of mills.

Recommending proposals that would enhance production capacity and efficiency.

3. Supervision of Subordinates

Directing the conduct of activities relative to the inspection of various equipment, flow of raw

materials, other production-related activities and minor corrective repairs of machineries.

Recommend training and personnel actions to the higher management.

Supervising Mill Operators and other shifters including subcontractors reporting within the shift.

4. OH & S

Production according to safety plans and address any identified situations.

Ensuring safe working conditions for all personnel within his place and time of duty.

Major achievements include;

Commissioning of the cement grinding mill which lately have given birth to a second mill.

Coordinating with production manager in production planning.

In coordination with the supporting departments output was increased from 2500TPD to 3000TPD.

Ensuring abundant cooling water for the machinery through running the RO plant efficiently.

Preventive maintenance for the RO plant to ensure 70% recovery i.e. achieves the desired 65m3/hr.

plant capacity.

Minimizing idle running of the machine resulting to power savage.

The company's environmental policy is observed through good housekeeping providing a

conducive working environment.

Coordinating/guiding the process supervisor, plant operator / machine attendant and heavy

equipment operator to perform their duties resulting to stable operation.

Taking remedial measurer whenever any abnormality or problem related to plant operation occurs

resulting to reduced stoppages.

Coordination with other department to provide technical support resulting to smooth plant

operation

The implementation of ISO 9001:2008 knowledge has led to quality management system by

observing the SOPs and the KPI's for maximum production
