Penang Island Colonial Buildings Penang is famous for it’s old

British Colonial Buildings like the Penang Museum above. Most of them are in a very small area around the Esplanade and it's just a short stroll between them. Colonial buildings and monuments in George Town symbolize new offspring of an architecture style.

o Fort CornwallisFort Cornwallis named after the Governor General in Bengal, Charles Cornwallis is one of the most interesting historical landmarks in George Town. Inside the fort, one can still see some of the original structures built over a century ago, including a chapel, prison cells, which were once used as barracks, a munitions storage area, a harbour light once used to signal incoming ships,

Farquhar in Georgetown is reputed to be one of the best state museums in the country. Divided into galleries dedicated to Penang's historical communities, as well as particular historical events that took place in Penang, the museum houses a fine collection of old photographs, maps, historical documents, Chinese furniture, embroidery, costumes and other historical relics.

o Little IndiaLittle India is an enclave within the inner quarters of George Town, Penang. As with other Little India elsewhere, the Little India of George Town is lined with shops managed by the Indian Community. It's a place to enjoy a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds, with goods from India spilling to the sidewalks, the smell of various spices in the air and Indian music blaring from loud speakers.

you can still absorb the historical ambience of the beginnings of the Chinese settlement in Penang. Visitors to Chinatown will be intrigued by the many clanhouses, shophouses and temples found along these streets.

o Street of HarmonyMasjid Kapitan Keling Road is often known as the Street of Harmony in Penang with its various landmarks of worship. The Kapitan Keling Mosque, at the corner of Buckingham Street and Masjid Kapitan Keling Road. It is the oldest mosque in Penang. The mosque we see today is a result of major renovation works that gave the mosque a face lift, including the construction of a tall dome-shaped minaret, largely influenced by Islamic Indian architecture.

Penang Island Reclining Buddha Wat Chaiyamangkalaram is one of the

most resplendent Buddhist temples in Penang. Although not the oldest, but Wat Chaiyamangkalaram is certainly the largest Buddhist temple in Penang. . The colossal size reclining Buddha statue is reputed to be the longest in the world and takes pride of place alongside other famous Buddha colossi found in Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and China.

o Clan JettiesThe Clan jetties consist of eight jetties, named after their surnames, Lim, Chew, Tan, Lee, Yeoh, Koay, Peng Aun and Mixed Clans. Chew is the famous last name and it means the entire long stretch of jetty are residence with Chew as their last name.
