Introduction Cryptography is based on the Greek words crypto (hidden, secret)

and graphein (writing) and its main aim is to convert the information from a readable text into a sequence of letters or numbers without

meaning in order to protect the information. Cryptography can be placed

at the boundary of mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering

and is used in e-commerce, computer passwords, ATM cards, providing

information security.

To protect the information we use encryption and convert the

readable text in a new form, ciphertext or coded text. We use a cipher to

encryption. The cipher is a mathematical function. Some samples of

ciphers are: Caesar’s Cipher, Polybe Square, Morse Code, ASCII Code, Vigenère Code, Affin Code, Logical sequence of numbers,

Caesar’s Cipher use a key to substitute a letter with another, for

example, if the key is 10 we will slide every letter up by 10:

where K will substitute A, L will substitute B and so on.

Polybe Square is a square with 25 boxes and W=VV:

from the square and second is the column from the square. The Affin Code uses a function to substitute a letter with another.

Our mysterious place is the Paris stock exchange. It’s situated on Viarmes street, in the

2nd arrondissement of Paris. It’s next to “les Halles” (shopping area).It was built by

architect Alexandre Theodore Brongniart and EloiLabarre. It is a Roman temple made

of stone with a giant Corinthian colonnade that enclose a vaulted and arcaded central

chamber. The "Seine" is next to it. The stock exchange of Paris is like Wall Street in

Our mysterious monument is the House of a famous person, also known as the house

“au grand pignon”. It's situated in the 3rd district of Paris, next to the station

Rambuteau. It’s one of the oldest houses in Paris. The man built this house for poor

people in 1407. Now it’s a restaurant. The facade is a historical monument.

This man was born between 1330 and 1340, and he died in 1418. He was a public

writer.

He is famous because the legend says that he’s the best alchemist in the world. He made

his fortune with the discovery of a special “stone”.

Moreover, this person is an important character in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher 's

Stone”.

Our monument is situated in the 4th arrondissement, near the Center Georges

Pompidou, in Brisemiche street, Paris.

The monument was built by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, in 1983. It is 36 m

high and 16,5 m wide. It is built with aluminium, steel and polyester. There are two

different styles: the style of Niki de Saint Phalle, it‘s colorful and shiny. It is

contemporary art. The style of Jean Tinguely is different: he built mecanic statues.

There are 16 sculptures, 7 of Jean Tinguely, 6 of Niki de Saint Phalle and 2 of the two

artists.

The monument is the building housing the city's local administration. Standing on the

place Hotel de Ville in the fourth district. The monument was built by Etienne Marcel

in 1357 on the Esplanade of the Liberation. Some people burnt the old hotel de Ville

and it was rebuilt between 1873 and 1882 by Theodore Ballu and EdouardDeperthes.

It is made with stone and tile for the roof and it is an resurgence style building.

Also, there are a lot of windows and a lot of statues too with a clock in the middle of the

building.

The place is an important place for the administration of Paris.

Our mysterious place is a cathedral. It is situated in the 4th district of Paris on the « Île

de la Cité », not far from the « Conciergerie » and near the famous river of Paris the

« Seine ». This wonderful cathedral was built between 1163 and 1345, it took more than

one hundred year. It was Maurice De Sully, the bishop of Paris, who decided in 1160 to

build a cathedral in a gothic style. The monument is very high, 90 meters. The walls are

in limestone, and the roof is in lead and the structure is in wood. In the center of the

frontage, there is a beautiful and big rose window. There are more than one milion

people visiting this cathedral every year. We hope you will find our place, and we think

The mysterious monument is a place and a museum.

There are a library in the monument and contemporary art exhibitions.

The monument is in the 4th district of Paris, in France. It is next to 2 subway stations,

"Rambuteau" and "Châtelet - Les Halles" and it is front of the Beaubourg hotel.

In 1969, the president Georges Pompidou had the idea of this center. It was built in

1976 by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. The building opened on the 31st January

1977.

The architecture of this building is original: the monument is made of steel and glass. It

is very very big and it is colored in blue, green, yellow and red. This monument is

modern for is structure, shape and color.

The name of the monument is the name of the president in 1969 (who died in 1974).

Our « monument » is a famous restaurant, in the 5th district of Paris. It was founded in

1582 by Rourteau, a great cook and it has a Renaissance architecture. Our mysterious

restaurant is on the banks of the Seine and we have a panoramic view on the river. We

can also see Notre-Dame cathedral. Now the chef’s restaurant is Laurent Delabre. There

you can taste his specialties like vines and duck especially “pressed duck “ .This

restaurant inspired scenes in the 2007 Pixar movie “Ratatouille” and a famous French

writer, Marcel Proust, in one of his best sellers “ In Search of lost time” ( or “A la

recherche du temps perdu“ ). We are very glad to show you this monument because we

are too greedy! But unfortunately, the prices of the meals are a bit expensive!

Solution:

The church is a brick Gothic church re-built in the 14th century (originally built in the

early 13th century), adjacent to the Main Market Square in Krakow. Standing 80 m

(262 ft) tall, it is particularly famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by VeitStoss.

On every hour, a trumpet signal is played from the top of the taller of two towers. The

plaintive tune breaks off in mid-stream, to commemorate the famous 13th century

trumpeter, who was shot in the throat while sounding the alarm before the Mongol

attack on the city. The melody is heard across Poland at noon-time and abroad

broadcast live by the Polish national Radio 1 station.

The church also served as an architectural model for many of the churches that were

built by the Polish diaspora abroad, particularly those like St. Michael's and St. John

Cantius in Chicago, designed in the so-called Polish Cathedral style.

Solution:

The object is a monumental (15 × 114 meter) cycloramic painting depicting the Battle

of Raclawice, during the Kosciuszko Uprising. It is currently located in Wroclaw,

Poland. The painting is one of only a few preserved relics of a genre of 19th century

mass culture, and the oldest in Poland. The panorama stands in a circular fashion and,

with the viewer in the center, presents different scenes at various viewing angles. A

special kind of perspective used in the painting and additional effects (lighting, artificial

terrain) create a feeling of reality.

Solution:

One of the most recognizable landmarks of Poland is a town hall and it’s famous

feature. The city was organizer of euro 2012 and hosted Irish supporters. A legend

states that a cook, while preparing a banquet for the voivode and other dignitaries, had

burnt a roast deer, and attempted to replace it by stealing two goats from a nearby

meadow. The goats escaped and ran up the town hall tower, where they attracted the

attention of the towns people when they began to butt each other. Because of the

entertainment provided, the voivode pardoned the cook, and ordered that two

mechanical goats be included into the new clock being made for the building.

Solution:

It's is one of the most important symbols of Gdansk. It has been standing since 1633 in the

Long Market, in front of Artus Court and has ‘posed’ for millions of photos. The initiator

of the monument was the mayor of Gdansk, BartlomiejSchachmann. The figure relates to

the union of the city with the sea, and is presented in a way that you can see it from all

sides. It was modeled by Peter Husen and Johann Rogge, according to the project by

GerdtaBenningka, and was cast in 1615 in Augsburg. The bowl and stem on which the

statue stands are the work of the sculptor Abraham van den Blocke. The whole object is

surrounded by a magnificent grille, dating from 1634. Between 1757-1761 Johann Karl

Stender transformed it, adding a whole array of sea creatures.

Solution:

It is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened in 1971 at 35

KorfantegoStreet under the name Voivodeship Sport and Show Arena in Katowice, under

which it is known in the Polish architectural literature, and under which it formally

functioned until 1997.

The idea of building a large venue originated in 1955, while Katowice was temporarily

renamed Stalinogrod. A contest was held to select the best design.Initially, it was to be

constructed on the outskirts of town, but the Voivodeship National Council decided it

should be built near the city center. A mining waste dump site classified "2A" was chosen

for construction.The classification "2A" indicated medium mining damage with a

possibility of local cave-ins.

While excavating the foundations, the workers dug through coal instead of soil. Soon after

construction began, rumors of design flaws in the new building spread, including the

rumour that the dome would collapse when the scaffolding was removed. Because of this,

in 1964, construction was halted for 18 months. It's architects and chief engineers entered

the dome when the supports were dismantled as a response to those rumors; clearly they

survived. Before opening the building to the public, endurance tests were conducted –

3,500 soldiers marched into the hall and vibration of the building was measured. The

outcome was positive.

Solution

Eminescu’s lime tree is about 250 years old, located in Copou Park. This tree, called “lovers’

tree “is the place where the poet Mihai Eminescu found its inspiration. In his walks through

Copou, he often came to talk with his friend , Ion Creanga, the writer and story teller, on a

bench, in the protective shadow of the lime tree.

This lime tree is the oldest in Copou Garden. The trunk remained empty after its decay and had

to be filled with cement and reinforced, being supported in a console.

Located in the middle of Copou Garden , Eminescu’s linden tree became a symbol of Iasi,

being a true place of pilgrimage for romantics. It was already there when the park was opened,

being a relic of what had been before in this place. In front of the lime tree, there is Eminescu’s

bronze bust, made by the sculptor Mateescu.

Solution

In front of Rosetti’s tomb there is a gigantic statue, representing a girl praying. Her eyes are on

the sky and her mouth is open.

This statue was made from Rosetti’s tomb place of pilgrimage and landmark. There are always

fresh flowers and different names scratched on the statue.

The legend said…That girl was the daughter of a police officer. She was huge, gigantic from a

early age. When she was nine years old , she was three meters. From this reason, she father

killed ( shot) her because that girl was the family shame ( she was different ) . The statue was

purchased by her father in her memory because her family missed her. Also, when the girl hug

Three Hierarchs Monastery is a valuable architectural monument located in the centre of

Iasi . The church was built by Prince Vasile Lupu , between 1637 -1639 , the royal

necropolis reflecting the aspirations of its founder to the Byzantine world , combining

The founder of this unique monument , Vasile Lupu , is one of the most important

The church “Sfanta Tereza a Pruncului Isus” is in the south-western part of the city. The

Saint Teresa of Lisieux was a catholic nun, she is worshiped within the catholic church

Solution

The existence of Botanic Garden in Iasi has a long history of more than a century. It was

founded by the physician and naturalist Anastasie Fatu in 1856.It was moved several

times during the 35 years immediately after the founder's death on 1886.

Currently, the Botanic Garden is located on Copou Hill and contains many species of

plants from around the world . Many greenhouses in the garden are made of glass and

metal.

The greenhouse sector includes 12 houses, each with its own characteristics and different

plants. The greenhouses 3, 4, 5, 6 , 10, 11 and 12 are intended solely for scientific

research and training material multiplier .For this reason, they are not opened to visitors.

The garden includes a section called Romanian Flora and Vegetation which is spread

within an area of 25 hectares. The Botanic Garden includes a section called Rosary which

includes more than 600 varieties of roses, spread over an area of 1.7 hectares. Due to the

large number of the variety of the collection shown here, it is unique in Romania and was

recognized by the World Federation of Rose Societies.

1882-Back in 1889,Gustave Eiffel , the”master of engineering ‘’ finished the last details

of an architectural masterpiece . Not in Paris or Viena , but here in Iasi , on Romanian

land , one of thr centers that gathered the knowledge and forces of the whole country

.Seven years before erecting the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Eiffel gave birth to a neoclassical

masterpiece here in Iasi, Piata Unirii : TRAIAN GRAND HOTEL .

Starting with the beginning of the 19 th Century, Traian Grand Hotel was a silent witness

of the national history, hosting its major events, which contributed to the shape of its own

history.

Princes, kings and princesses , ambassadors , ministers and state presidents , artists ,

pilgrims in quest for spirituality , all the businessmen always on road , they all lived one

day of their own story right here , in the old hotel , ‘’ symbol of the French – Romanian

cultural community , made famous by Eiffel himself ‘’.
