Accelerating the dissemination of ndings that drug abuse and addictionresearch generates into community-based practice is a key priority for theNational Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). To this end, NIDA relies on an in-novative partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health ServicesAdministrations Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (SAMHSA/CSAT)known as the Blending Initiative. This initiative is NIDAs most recent effortto accelerate the dissemination of research-based drug abuse and addictiontreatment ndings into community-based practice.
Based on recently tested NIDA research, Blending Teams design user-friendlytools, or products, and introduce them to treatment providers. These products
facilitate the adoption of research-based interventions in communities at near-ly the same time research results are published in peer-reviewed journals.
Blending Teams are comprised of NIDA researchers, clinical treatment pro-viders, and trainers from SAMHSAs Addiction Technology Transfer Center(ATTC) Network. These experts work together to develop products basedon research conducted within NIDAsClinical Trials Network as well aswithin other research programs sup-ported by NIDA. The ATTCs, whichare funded by CSAT, provide spe-cialized training and technical assis-tance to substance abuse treatmentprofessionals to create a more effec-tive treatment workforce.
