  • Jan de Kloe was born The Netherlands. Since 1967 he lives in Belgium. After retiring from the software industry he is now a full time musician. He studied music with private teachers and at the royal conservatories of Brussels (with Nicols Alfonso) and Lige (with Jess Gonzles Mohino). Master classes were attended with Julian Bream and Turibio Santos. As a soloist he performed in Belgium, various other European countries and in North America. He published three recordings and now shares his time between playing, teaching, music research, music engraving, editing and publishing. He regularly contributes to music magazines and has published about Juan Bermudo, Frank Martin, Franois de Fossa, Agustn Barrios, Oscar Espl and Isaac Albniz. His editions contain a Sonata by Weiss, Mazurkas by Chopin, the violin concerto, songs, guitar solos and duets by Fernando Sor, and duets by Haydn/de Fossa. In 1995 and 1999 he received the American Music Publishers Associations Paul Revere Award for Graphic Excellence in Music Engraving.

    Jan specializes in cross string ornamentation and has given classes on this subject in Yugoslavia, the USA, Canada and Russia. His method appeared with Doberman-Yppan in Canada.

    He plays on instruments built by Jos Ramrez (Madrid, 1972) and Paul Jacobson (Missouri, 1997).
