In past, we were travelling in Thailand with tourist groups and we liked Thailand very much, food, people and of course the weather. At one

point we saw a brochure about properties in Mae Phim which made us interested of the idea buying our own place, somewhere not so touristic area but smaller and more genuine Thai like Mae Phim is. We also have a summer house in Finland where we spend only few months a year, therefore this idea seemed good in the long run and we have not regretted that buying decision.

We have been very pleased with our contractor regards to the service and quality they have built, all matters has been running smoothly while we have been able to communicate with our mother language.

There is a story behind every beach name.

Just a few kilometers from Mae Phim to Ban Phe, we find some beautiful beaches which have become popular among those who visit Mae Phim. We are talking about Coca-Cola Beach, Kims Beach, Ken Beach. Nick-name part of everyday life in Thai-land and the beaches are no excep-tion. Often the beach is named after the resort or restaurant who want to claim it as his. Coca-Cola beach you will find 3-4 km west of Mae Phim. At the big cola sign, turn left. More about 2km towards the beach is Ken & Kims Beach.

Continue West and we see Bee Beach, Freedom Beach, and Be Happy Beach. You can walk for a while and come to Novotel Hotel and then suddenly to Novo Tell beach. Be Happy Beach has a wonderful

little bar called Cheap Charlie Bar! A bar made of bamboo and corrugated iron that in some strange way, stays together. For visitors there is a bench to sit on and many bottles and happy smiles! Is that the reason for the name of the beach? Be Happy Beach? We think so.

The beach of Mae Phim is usually de-scribed as one of the finest mainland beaches in Thailand. 4.3 km long, of which 2/3 are natural beach while the other 1/3 has restaurants and loung-ers. When you see the Parasols along the beach, know that this is a great place to get fresh seafood and cold drinks. From the beach it only takes about 20 minutes by speedboat to the island paradise of Koh Samet. The slow boat (100 baht), runs from Ban Phe. There are a few who do not want to go to Ban Phe and avoid traveling on the truck-taxi. In this case, you may want to charter a boat from Follow Me Tour. It may cost a little more, but it will be quicker and you may enjoy yourself a bit more. Follow Me Tour has boats on the neighboring Ken Beach.

Coca-Col Beech znajdziemy 3-4 km na zachd od Mae Phim. Przy duej reklamie Coca-Coli skr w lewo. Kilka kilometrw dalej znajdziemy Ken i Kim Beach.

Idc dalej w kierunku zachodnim widzimy Bee Beach, Freedom Beach oraz Be Happy Beach. Jeszcze dalej i dojdziemy do Novotelu i tu nagle Novotel Beach. Przy Be Happy Beach znajdziemy may barek na-zwany Cheap Charlie Bar! Barek zbudowany jest z bambusa i blachy falistej i nie wiadomo jakim cudem, ale trzyma si w caoci. Do dys-pozycji klientw jest aweczka, wiele butelek i mnstwo umiechw. Czy to jest powodem nazwy tej play? Mylimy, e tak.

Plaa w Mae Phim czsto jest opisywana, jako jedna z najwspa- nialszych pla staego ldu w Tajlandii. Koh Samet is arguably one the most beautiful island in Thailand. Here you will find gorgeous beaches and beautiful coral reefs and beautiful res-taurants with a very cozy atmosphere.The island is a marine national park and popular destination even for Thais, mostly during weekends and other holidays as the island is easily accessible from Bangkok (about 2.5 hours).

A lot of Scandinavians have fallen in love with the island. The perfect hideaway for those who want to take it easy for a few days, weeks or years. If you compare this with other more tourist-intensive sites, Koh Samet re-ally stands out. Here reigns serenity, beaches with a laid-back existence. In the evening there are restaurants and a fire show to entertain.

Koh Mun Nai is located north of Koh Mun Klang while Mun Nork is locat-ed south of the two, about 5km from the coast of Mae Phim and accessible by speedboat (about 15 min). Here you can snorkel, sunbathe, swim and just take it easy. The archipelago is beautiful!At Koh Mun Nai there are no accom-modations, so the island is ideal for a day trip.Koh Man Nai is a Sea Turtle sanctu-ary that was founded by Thailands Queen.Koh Mun Nai has many beautiful beaches and coves. They are called Aow Thonmakhaam, Aow Hinkhod-yar, Aow Gonggarng and Aow Nah-baan. Nahbaan Beach has incredibly beautiful corals in the bay and is perfect for snorkeling. Aow Gong-garng bay has a fine sandy beach and Naban Beach on the northern end of Koh Mun Nai.

Koh Talu is a paradise beyond the mainland with beautiful beaches and great snorkeling.On Koh Talu you really will be alone as there are some who live on the island, few tourists, and therefore you have no salesmen who want to sell you things. On the east side there are nice beaches while the western side has mostly mountains and cliffs. The rest of the island consists of forest.

Koh Chang, which has become one of Thailands most popular islands to visit, it is about 2 hours from Mae Phim (+ 30 min ferry). The most famous beach is White Sand Beach which is 2.2 km long, but there are a dozen beaches to choose from, each with its special charm.

Best shopping aroundFew hundred meters on highway 344 towards Bangkok you can find huge market which is open every Tuesday between 3 pm and 8 pm; this is a place you should not miss.Ban Phe is located 25 kilometers west of Mae Phim and is most known as the place where to pick up ferries to nearby Koh Samed island. Ferries takes about 40 minutes and costs 100 Baht / person. Speed boats are also available for those wishing to reach there fast. Ban Phe is also known for its markets selling dried seafood prod-ucts and local handy crafts.

Klaeng is the nearest town from Mae Phim, about 15 kilometers north. There you can find small stores scat-tered around town selling clothing, sporting goods and all kind of food products. Here you can also find newly opened Tesco Lotus depart-ment store which is more western style supermarket and shopping / dining venue.

Mae Phim is the place where you can en-joy the genuine Thailand. If you are look-ing for great shopping, then you should head down to Rayong City where most of the stores and department stores and markets are located. At the roundabout on the way to Klaeng, about 3.5 km from Mae Phim beach, we find Sunthorn Phu sitting on a hilltop Phra Apai Mani below playing on his flute. There are characters from a story created by the national poet Sun Thorn Phu who lived and worked during the years 1786 to 1855. Lord of the Phra Aphai Mani and all other figures depicted in the park, he began writing when he was, for a short time, in prison after he was involved in a fight.

There are nearly 60 caves in the nation-al park but only 20 of them are tourists allowed to visit. In some encounters the Buddhist monks who have taken over the caves and moved. A copy of the Buddhas footprint can be seen in one of the parks caves, which has become a small temple.

Snorkel Tours are available to both Koh Samet and the nearby islands. They make a few stops for snorkeling at the islands southern tip (Samet). You can also dive in the waters around Mae Phim. There are two water parks opening outside of Mae Phim on the way to Pattaya, just an hour drive away.
