    S IGNAL ACQUISITION : E XPERIMENT

Signals are recorded from a barrel column by stimulating theprinciple whisker Rat is anesthetized with a mixture of Katamine and XylineNeurosurgery

    ECG

Body temperature controllingElectrode is inserted to a barrel column at a depth of 750 um

The corresponding whisker is found by stimulating one whisker at a timeon the snout and checking the signal amplitude

Custom-made speaker providing dorsal-ventral movements through aconnected metal tube is driven using 1 ms 10 V square pulsesOnce the corresponding or principle whisker is found, the recordingelectrode is brought back to the cortical surface and a depth profile isrecorded with a recording pitch of 90 to 100 um until last cortical layer

C ONCLUDING REMARKS AND F UTURE DIRECTION

Layer activation order is important in understanding the signal processing pathways

Tactile information processing pathway can be decoded using the LFPs from the Barrel cortex

The proposed method calculates the layer activation order based on LFPs, thus reducingcalculation time compared to that of the CSD

This work presents an automated solution to the calculation of the layer activation order

IEEE EMBC2010 - 4 September 2010, NeuroChip Lab, UNIPD, IT

The comparison with manual computation and CSD shows that the method works correctly

Incorporation of event definition by the user is the work under progress

Information about the software package will be available at the webpage www.cyberrat.eu
