ESSENCE OF LIFEIt was a summer evening which changed my

perspective of the people.

The busy road and the flying dust surrounded me as Iwaited for the bus that would take me home. My stoppingwas peculiar to only a few buses and I had to sometimeswait a long time. I shifted from one foot on to another asmy heavy bag started to show it’s mighty power on myshoulders.

I was already late,as I had gone out to eat with myfriends and the lack of buses was leading me to frustrationand anger. I decided against taking auto as I wanted tosave money for my expenses. The sun had started to set, starting vibrations in the pit of my stomach due to fearof the scoldings I will get , once I reach home.

I was desperately calling all Gods when Inoticed an old woman walking back and forthalong the bus stop. I didn’t say anythingbut I couldn’t help wonder her story. Ihave always been observant, and toguess people’s stories interests me.After a few minutes of drawingtheories, I decided to make talk.

“Waiting for bus, paati?”, I asked.

Ofcourse, she was. That could be the dumbestquestion ever.

“Yes, dear. Where do you want to go?”, she asked.

“Nearby only”, Ilied, the warning of talking tostrangers ringing in my head.

For all I know, thispaati could be the mafia queen ora kidnapper, I wasn’t taking chances.

“Do you always go out this late?” she asked.

Warning bells drummed in my head.

“No, paati. My dad has work in the station today,he’s an inspector, yousee, so.” More lies. You can’t scarepeople more other than by being a police officer’sdaughter, well, army counts.

“Okay, dear. I will go sit, can you please tell me whenthe bus to C.M.B.T comes?” she requested.

I accepted,as there were many buses to her destination. And immediately a white-boarded bus to C.M.B.T came.

I called her, but she didn’t board the bus. I askedwhy.

“The ticket is pricey, dear. I will go in a ordinaryone”, she said.

It hit me,then.I wanted to know what would make asixty-year old lady wait for a bus late in the evening.Icouldn’t shake the feeling that a mere extra five rupeesis a luxury to her. I felt so sad.

Just like that, she told me about her story. She was adaily worker in a nearby construction site, whose houseis far way and she usually has to search jobs. She keptworrying about her granddaughter being alone, as herson had died recently and her daughter-in law was sick.

Somewhere along this world, there I was, listeningto someone’s story. I was so touched, becausenever have I ever connected to a stranger. Itold her to sit and I would call her if thebus came, unfortunately for another half-hour it didn’t.

But, two buses to my destinationarrived. Yet, I couldn’t leave the paatialone,I waited with her. Each time she asked

about my bus, I would deflect or lie, I didn’twant her to know I was staying for her, she wouldn’t letme.

After another quarter hour of waiting, she decidedto take the deluxe bus, tired. “But, it’spricey, na?”

“What can I do, dear?. It’s okay, I will save my 30tomorrow”, she laughed.

The bus arrived and I helped her with her cloth sack.As she was walking towards the bus, I stopped her.

“Paati, you dropped your money”

“Thank God,what would I have done!” she heaved arelief.

She kissed me in the cheek and rushed to the bus.

That night, I slept peacefully with a sense ofsatisfaction in my heart.

I wonder if she knew I had cheated her into takingmoney. I smiled.

‘NATURE’-OUR ENVIRONMENTBy A.JAYASHREE IX E‘Plastics’ are the enemies to environment. It may look

quite useful ,but wuth time it will only harm us andmake made things.Plastic bags ,because of their non-biodegradable nature have already cost us a losr, waterlodging during rainy season due to this crops aredestroyed in case of over flow of water ,badcrops because of plastics in the soil, harms aquatic life if thrown in water andreduces the production of coal.

They are bad, destructive, non-biodegradble. The environment needs a lotof space which is to be nature just like usa lot of space which is to be nature just like usto work properly. The nature is a mirror thatreflects what we do to it.Because of well de-veloped and modernization, there are not enoughtrees ,villagers transformed into cities. To keep the en-vironment to work properly and stay in balance .The onething we should do it not to pollute it.Today ,the numberone pollutant is’plastics’.

Is it good or bad:-

It is bad because it is not a natural products, though

it is used to do some good works and after use it can’tbe decomposed or burnt because both causes bad to

environment .It cannot be destroyed ,it can only berecycled and used for longer. And by us-

ing plastics for really long time is un-healthy as it attracts bacteria andcauses people in sick.

How can it be done?

In India, Himachalpradesh whichis probably the only state which has

successfully discontinued using plasticbags. We need to stop using plastics be-

cause if you don’t 10-100 years down thelane, the planet will not have any natural

resource.Eventually a day will come when 100percent of people will be using a substitute for plas-tics and the world will still have some hope to clingon to I am not saying the problem will end,but theend of the problem will begin!

My Vision – Corruption free IndiaB.Bhavadharani XII-A

Got 1st prize in oratorical competition conducted by NLC

My humble Namasthe and a very good morning toeveryone present. I,B.Bhavadharani of class XII here toshare my thoughts on my vision Corruption free India.

Let me begin. Anti corruption: As a future citizen ofour Indian nation I suppose this word is treated as anidea and not as a solution. Just adding four letters ‘a’ ‘n’‘t’ ‘I’ to the word corruption, it took us so long years. Now I think the time has come to make it vital.

Let me commence with the thoughts that arepondering in my mind. Though many schemes andprogrammes have been put forth by thegovernment, we could see no amendmentsin path of the life lead by common people. It is just same old independent life. No onewould deny the fact that these are due tolack of transparency in our government. Itis concealed, hidden among the so-calleddignified people involved in corruption.Consequently no people are acquaintedabout the laws and rights properly. Evenfor getting a contract signed (or) a licenseto be sanctioned, corruption is indulged.More than anyone in the society the poorpeople are adversely affected due to thisevil that tabes so many forms in every field.

This mere condition of the people iscaricatured by good opportunist in our society. Thoughit is illegal, it is lechecked and doesn’t find any worthfullspace in minds of the people. It is because the cleansones are too few to raise a cry that can be heard. Itflourishes due to lack of political will to tighten the noosearound the corrupt. The silence and indifference of thepeople would silently encourage corruption.

Talking about combating against the evil, propereducation and awareness among the people ispredominant. It can also be done by curtailing the rolesof ministers in policies and increasing promoting theparticipation of individuals in every action. The lawsand norms should be made austere enough. I stronglybelieve those who indulge in corruption irrespective of

position, caste, and grade in our society, should belegally penalized. The loyal and honest should beincentivated.

Moreover, the very thought of common peoplepersisting on the current political situation should beamended, influenced so as to increase the confidenceon the political members and politics.I strongly believethat, to make all this come true we need a soul thirstyenough to bring a civilized nation besides all thecommotion prevailing in our society. Precisely said an

Ideological leader-Need of an hour.

Yes here is my vision towardscorruption free India.

Building a nation with not just theeducated people but with ideological frontrunner. From my point of view, I wouldsay that to put our thoughts into action firstwe need a spearhead that has differentviews, who has got a deep insatiable thirstof soul to build a nation with all the moralethics it needed.

Let us all try to be one among them. Nopain no gain. Challenges are confrontedday in and day out but its results would beworthwhile. Challenges do not occur toeverybody. Only that whose life has a

purpose on ideal to strive for and a mission to fulfillhas the opportunity to face the challenges.

In that case, as responsible citizens of our nation, itwholly represents us to face the challenges in combatingagainst the corruption. Do not bend down for everything.Shake of all the fears, weaknesses, and cowardice, broaden your mind. Tear up the errands in your handsto make a corruption free India.

It should not be just a striving of words, but a courseof action. From now on let’s wake up and enough isenough. As a future civilian of our nation, I invite youall to join with me in creating a new INDIA and to provethat corruption free India is possible. Let it start fromnow.

India is a beautiful country of wide landscapes, magnificent coasts, breathtaking oceans and vast diversity.Need not to say, it is a world in it self. In a country, wherepride for culture, morality, tradition and ideal values isheld high, a terrible plague called corruption is eatingaway India’s integrity like a pest.

It is such a gregarious, greedypest that in it’s quest forpower, it brings the whole country down,in addition tostomping on the less fortunate victims with a wicked laughof power and wealth. Undoubtedly and shamelessly, corruption has become such an epidemic in our country, that anyone who makes an attempt to eradicate this, ismore likely to succumb to awe and grief.

What is corruption?Corruption is the immoral activity done against a

standard set of rules or regulations for the sake of one’sown personal needs, and could either be for money orinvolve money exchange in any way.

Why corruption happens?“No Country is perfect, you need to make it better”No individual is perfect in their existence.Nobody

could deny that they had either been involved or witnessedor been subjected to some kind of corruption.Corruptionstretches it’s widespread tentacles in every field we couldthink of,education, politics, agriculture, infrastructure, production and distribution, globalization, Healthsector, government offices, etc, etc.

We lament of the staggering condition of poverty, unemployment, lack of order and cleanliness, increasingcrimes, lack of proper facilities and inefficientsupply, but instead of doing the simple thing of blamingthe officials, why don’t we analyse the root cause of allthese?

“If you are not part of the solution, then you are theproblem”

A government scheme or any other aids given to thecommon people do not go to the rightful place but to thedesired place of some corrupt middlemen. How can youset people corruption free when representatives of nationare corrupted?

Who do we blame? Shame on the name who ruinedcountry’s fame.

MY VISION OF A CORRUPTION FREE INDIAESSAY WRITING COMPETITION CONDUTED BY NLC

A. RITHIKA of XI B1 got III PrizeSimple case, you are in a very long queue and you have

a very urgent meeting, is it not easy to cut the queue?Who do we blame in this case?Rules are neither enforced nor followed in India. That

doesn’t mean corruption is exclusive in our country. Ifwe are the people united under an umbrella, the darkterrific clouds engulfing our minds, iscorruption. And thetattering remains of the torn umbrella, are the left overparts of our moral values.

As APJ Abdul Kalamsaid,”India wants young peopleof ethics, youths of ethics. They will bring beauty incharacter and harmony in home”.

So,will stricter laws and punishment put an end tothis?

Does being morally good eradicate Corruption in itsvilest forms?

Cycle of Corruption:I think there are three main players in an act of

corruption. The victim: They are the normal people of our country

who get forced to bribe officials for anything tohappen.Even if you have all the necessary legaldocuments, somewhere along the way,you need to passmoney.

The culprit: They are the ones who take bribery to dotheir duty.We see them every day or we are one amongthem.

The boss: They are usually the higher officials orlandlords or money lenders who pressurize or extractmoney from their employees.

If you observe closely, you will notice a cycle amongthese three. The victim becomes a culprit to meet hisfinances, and the culprit becomes the victim under theboss, even the boss himself might be a victim under aneven more powerful person. Hence, every citizen is insome form or another, a victim of corruption.

How does corruption affect the country and itscitizens?

“The rich get richer, and the Poor get poorer”Money is the main game player in this act of

corruption. Those with money hold power, andreal issuethat raises concern in India todayis the agony of all thoseIndians who are inadvertently victims of corruption. Theyare even deprived of basic amenities, due to some foulplay.

India is one among the democratic countries of theworld, the very meaning of democracy is to the people, for the people, by the people, but does voting rights makeany change?

There are so many corrupt leaders who care nothingabout the needs and heeds of the seeds of nation and justlook to fill their pockets plenty.

“Honesty pays Honors and Corruption Dishonors”How can we eradicate corruption?1. Give better salary in government jobs2. Increase the number of workers3. Law to dismiss from service if found to be involved

in corruption4. Keep transactions online and provide bill for every

purchase5. Speed up the work process in government institutes6. Verify the selection procedures7. Speed up the judgment and increase the courts8. collective efforts from the public

“When I open my eyes,I see a beautiful country shiningin its glory and modesty. The people converse throughthe magnificent language of humanity. There’s norich, except the jewels of truth, honesty, sharing and unity. There is no discrimination,no majority or minority.Everyone gets an equal share of everything, governmentschemes reach not only those of power but every commonman.

For me,an ideal country is not a guileless, but a nationthat is aware and fighting towards perfection.

An ideal country is not without jails or criminals, butpeople and just laws to put the bad people behind bars.

An ideal country lies in the balance of the good andbad, and the fire in the people’s heart to give birth to aNation of Glory and Pride”.

That is my vision for my Mother Nation.“We all need to fight a hard battle to improve the things.

Our politics needs to undergo chemotherapy. Theignitedmind of the youth is the most powerful resource on theearth, under the earth and above the earth. Knowledgewill empower you to undertake great missions”, Dr.Kalamsaid.

Let us be the change our nation wants. Let us be theproud daughters and sons of our corruption-free Bharat.
