Taken from the first feature film of the directorwho gave us Farinelli and The King Dances,this original music soundtrack fromGérard Corbiau's The Music Teacher (1988)offers great moments of singing fromthe famed bass-baritone José Van Dam andtenor Jérôme Pruett, among others.Wonderful opera arias by Mozart, Verdiand Bellini alternate with superb liederby Mahler, Schumann, Schubert and Wolf.

This is the magnificent accompanimentto the story of retired opera singer JoachimDallayrac (Van Dam) who becomes singingteacher to the young Sophie and Jean.After gruelling training, they are pittedin competition against Arcas, protégéof Dallayrac's arch rival Prince Scotti.In the end, love and good triumph, of course,but it is especially music that is victoriousin the hearts of the virtuous protagonistsas well as of the spectators and listeners.

Tracks 6 to 8 can be heard on this CD only.José Van Dam recorded them for scenesin the film that were later modified.

C'est cette magnifique trame qui accompagnel'histoire du maître de chant Joachim Dallayrac(Van Dam), ancienne étoile des grandesscènes du monde, dont les protégés Sophieet Jean devront concourir contre Arcas, l'élèvede son machiavélique rival le Prince Scotti.L'amour et le bien triomphent, bien sûr, maisc'est surtout la musique qui sort grandvainqueur dans le cœur des protagonistesvertueux comme dans celui des spectateurset des auditeurs.
