Anima cava comes from the dialogue with Venetian citizens. We have discovered a simple and authentic city, linked to the lagoon, to work, to friends, to travel and to imagination, a very different city from the one that sells us the tourist industry. We have also understood that “personal stories” are a formidable tool to understand and involve people.

Thus in spring 2016 Anima cava was transformed into a three-day exhibition, intended not as an exhibition of works but as a narrative experience in which the visitor became an active reader leaving his contribution, his image of Venice.

It seems to us that in the last decades the city has gone lost in an image in which its people do not recognize themselves, an image made of luxury, of large ships, of “made in China” masks. Venice is losing its people and so its soul. To a city “to behold” we must replace a “living” one.

A + T = D? it is an essay on the relationship between the visual arts and the technologies developed in the twentieth century in which the criticalities present in an experimental approach to the graphic profession are investigated. The photograph on the cover was made by breaking an old computer with a drill and inserting a knife.

Only later we discovered that the computer could have exploded due to the compressed gas on the screen inside it. We are still alive.

The agenda is an intimate and daily tool to raise awareness of the great ecological disaster of the seas and oceans. The graphic project I created revolves around the twelve illustrations of Mediterranean marine life.

Stories of the sea, information and scientific curiosity remind us that the sea is a wonderful resource and necessary for the survival of the planet and that we must take care of it.

NO (COME STILE DI VITA)

NO is a comic about contemporary economy, capitalism and work. The protagonist - a stylized myself in the form of a stick man with a skirt - tries to orient herself in the economic word.

The work was the product of a year of my life in which I set myself the goal of understanding something more of economy, and, above all, of understanding where my discomfort towards the world of contemporary work came from.

I honestly did not reach any conclusion but I clash with the concepts of consumerism, globalization and neoliberalism, with a world of work in decline, with a violent art of protest and finally with a nature catapulted towards collapse.

I have to admit that if it were not for the slatted legs and the empty gaze of the protagonist, a bit thick and often incompetent, it would be a very sad book.

At the dawn of the elections of the new ISIA director we organized a debate between the possible candidates. With the pretext of a fictitious candidate, “Gina Toccafondo”, whose posters and electoral campaign we made, we invited all the students of the faculty (who do not have the right to vote) to intervene in the dialogue.

In the days before the event a ballot box was placed at the entrance of ISIA to allow everyone to write their request or proposal; during the debate, the students also had the opportunity to “vote” for the candidate whose answers they appreciated most.

PELO is an annual magazine founded by a collective of illustrators. Initially conceived as an outlet, it has become an ever-changing editorial project that bluntly addresses an irreverent subject in every issue.By choosing to be our own committees we have the

opportunity to bring illustration into the foreground, to structure the project so that the visual power of different styles is intensified, and to focus on visual reinterpretation rather than on translating content literally.

Through PELO we have set ourselves the goal of working with contributing illustrators who share our philosophy and producing a creative space where exciting, innovative, and knowledgeable work thrives. We believe this is the opportunity to freely produce something together while also having fun, in order to establish a direct dialogue based on irony with the public.

For these reasons we autonomously manage the processes of production, distribution and sales, thus achieving an otherwise unattainable degree of independence.

Pelo has just become a cultural association and a small publishing house in all respects, with the aim of producing not only the magazine but other books, organizing exhibitions, presentations and meetings with illustrators all over Italy.
