Nowa czytelnia

Przy końcu kwietnia *1957 r. przeniesiono z PI. Litewskiego v 3 czytelnię do gmachu przy ul. Narutowicza 4.Nowa jasna czytelnia o rozmiarach 17 m x 7 m rozporządza 60-ma miejscami i przedstawia typ czytelni wspólnej dla zbiorów zwartych i czasopism, co podyktowane zostało warunkami lokalo­wymi. Książki mieszczą się na długich trzech równoległych ze­stawach 34-ch regałów, ustawionych z boku, wzdłuż czytelni. Pierwszy zestaw, zwrócony frontem do sali, bezpośrednio do­stępny dla czytelników, jest prawie całkowicie zapełniony wy­dawnictwami informacyjnymi, tej. encyklopediami, słownikami, bibliografiami i innymi informatorami, wśród których przybyło ostatnio wiele z importu. Dalsze regały, dostępne tylko dla pracowników, przeznaczono na księgozbiór podstawowy. W czytel­ni ogólnej oraz w nowo otwartej pracowni profesorskiej, która mieści się obok i ma 6 miejsc, będzie można ulokować ok.8T)00 vol.

Niełatwy był problem powiększenia dawnego księgozbioru, li­czącego ok. 2000 vol. Jeszcze przed przeprowadzką usunięto rze­czy przestarzałe i niepotrzebne. Opracowano nowy, aktualniej- szy schemat układu, według którego przesygncwano cały stary księgozbiór. W nowym schemacie dawne symbole literowe A, 6,C itd. zastąpiono cyframi rzymskimi dla oznaczenia działów.Na czoło wysunięto zbiór pomocniczy. Zagadnieniu układu poświę­cono specjalne zebranie oddziałowe, rozszerzone obecnością Dy­rekcji i Kierowników innych oddziałów celem uzgodnienia tych spraw.Przed przeprowadzką przygotowano na podstawie katalogu rzeczo­wego kartotekę ponad 1500 tytułów, które winny wzbogacić zasoby czytelni. Przeprowadzono szkontrum przed i po przeprowadzce.Już w nowej czytelni personel Udostępniania rozpoczął klasy­fikację (według przyjętego schematu) książek, przywożonyoh z magazynu wypożyczalni na podstawie wspomnianej wyżej kartoteki,

powielanie kart katalogowych do katalogów czytelni oraz sygno­wanie • Opracowano w ten sposób ok* 2000 vol* Z oddziału opra­cowania przekazano ponad 700 vol« tak, że w chwili obecnej księgozbiór - osiągnął liczbę ok, 5000 vol*Największą jego część stanowią książki w języku polskim*W doborze kierowano się ogólnie przyjętymi zasadami, wynika­jącymi z zadań biblioteki* Uwzględniono przede wszystkim kierunki wiedzy, reprezentowane w Uniwersytecie? prawo, hu­manistykę, biologię i nauki o ziemi, matematykę; większość zbiorów chemiczno-fizycznyoh przeniesiono do filii przy ul* Nowotki 8* Nie zrezygnowano.przy tym z pewnej wszech­stronności, jeśli chodzi o dzieła podstawowe, syntetyczne, bądź też o aktualne materiały, potrzebne dla różnych kate­gorii czytelników*0 ile pozwoliły na to zasoby, ściągnięto oryginały dzieł a także tłumaczenia /najnowsze wydania/* Oprócz tego zgroma* dzono więcej niż przedtem źródeł takich "jak dokumenty histo­ryczne, teksty literackie, kodeksy, dzienniki ustaw itp*Dla młodzieży akademickiej włączono w 2-ch lub 3-ch egzem- £plarzach podręczniki i skrypty często żądane, potrzebne do ^ egzaminów* W czytelni profesorskiej gromadzi się przede wszystkim nowe nabytki z importu, wśród nich polskie wy­dawnictwa emigracyjne.Prace nad organizacją księgozbioru nie są oczywiście zakoń­czone, trzeba jeszcze wyszukać.i wcielić przynajmniej Około 2000 vol., zostawiając również miejsce na dalszy rozwój*Jak została w nowych warunkach rozwiązana sprawa czasopism? Otóż zmieściła się tu niewielka w porównaniu z otrzymywanymi ilość bieżących czasopism krajowych /3 regały i 1 gablotka/ oraz w czytelni profesorskiej - zagranicznych /2 gablotki/* Większą część czasopism bieżących rozłożono w pobliskim ma­gazynie, znajdującym się w bocznym skrzydle gmachu; resztę zaś, mniej atrakcyjną - na Podgrodziu* Z czasopism retro­spektywnych zatrzymano w czytelni jako stałe pozycje pewną ilość tytułów o charakterze czysto naukowym i ogólnym za­równo w języku polskim jak i w językach obcych; część zaś ozasopism, dostosowywanych stale do bieżących potrzeb, stano­

wi płynne, małe zapleoze dla ułatwienia praoy; oentralny bo­wiem magazyn czasopism retrospektywnych znajduje się na Pod­grodziu, skąd trzeba je przynosić} tam też odnosi się materia­ły wykorzystane*Rzeozowy układ biblioteki podręcznej odpowiada przyjętemu schematowi, a mianowioie :I*1!* Encyklopedie ogólne 1*2* Enoyklopedie specjalneII.1 Słowniki językowe 11*2. roczników UMCS alfabetyczny i działowy; 4/ alfabetyczny ka­talog czasopism re tr ospę let ywnych.

Czytelnictwo zorganizowano w nowym pomieszczeniu na zasadach powszechnie obowiązującego regulaminu, to znaczy :1/ Karta biblioteczna uprawnia do wstępu2/ Po wejściu obowiązuje podpisanie się w księdze odwiedzin 3/ Wypożyczanie wydawnictw odbywa się na podstawie zamówień,

t. zw. dezyderatek4/ Z czytelnictwa czasopism bieżących nie prowadzi się do­

kument ac j i3/ Wierzchnie okrycia 1 teczki należy zostawić w szatni /jest

wspólna z Biblioteką im* H,Łopacińskiego/,Nowa czytelnia jest dobrze oświetlona 5-ma żyrando­

lami /są również lampy stołowe/ i wyposażona w nowy sprzęt • jasnego koloru. Cieszy się na ogół dobrą frekwencją, dzięki której - pomimo przerw w udostępnianiu w czasie przeprowadzki -roczne dość wysoko zaplanowane cyfry zostały przekroczone /ponad 23000 odwiedzin, ponad 35000 wypożyczeń/.

Mocno jednak należy podkreślić, że odłączenie czy­telni od katalogu ogólnego oraz od magazynu książek i czaso­pism jest uciążliwe zarówno dla czytelników jak i pracowni­ków, Niekorzystny jest również dla rozwoju czytelnictwa brak zróżnioowania czytelń-
