through the combination of novel structural information and quantitative simulation approaches. Studied various protein systems fueled by GTP and ATP hydrolysis reaction energetics (e.g., GTPases and

ATPases, respectively), including Ras and RasGap systems for the origin of cancer-causing mutations and the F1-ATPase system for understanding complex biological machines which exhibit a mechanochemical rotary mechanism.

Critically evaluated and provided evidence against the proposal that enzymatic catalysis has sizeable contributions from large-scale conformational motions/fluctuations in dihydrofolate reductase and related enzymes utilizing computer simulations to elucidate the true molecular basis for the experimentally observed conformational motions and catalytic effect.

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, Evanston, IL, USA, September 2005 – August 2010 PhD Candidate Mentor: Professor Linda J. Broadbelt Topic: Microkinetic Modeling of Silicon Nanoparticle Formation with Quantum Chemical Calculations and Group Additivity Used quantum chemical calculations, statistical thermodynamics, conventional and variational transition

state theory, and internal rotation corrections, to calculate accurate rate coefficients for over 130 reactions involving both monofunctional and multifunctional reactive centers.

Calculated thermochemical properties for 175 hydrogenated clusters containing up to 13 silicon atoms to analyze the polycyclic and multifunctional nature of complex species; derived a robust group additivity database for thermochemistry prediction.

Developed novel structure-activity correlations for several key reaction classes of silicon hydride pyrolysis; studied underlying reaction dynamics to further the understanding of hydrogenated silicon nanoparticle formation chemistry at the molecular level.

GHENT UNIVERSITY, Ghent, Belgium, March 2008 – September 2009 Research Fellow, Laboratory for Chemical Technology Mentors: Professors Marie-Françoise Reyniers and Guy B. Marin Topic: Application of Transition State Group Additivity to Silicon Hydride Pyrolysis Extended Benson’s group additivity model to transition states to predict Arrhenius parameters, i.e., the

pre-exponential factor and activation energy, using quantum chemical calculations for the major monofunctional reaction classes during silicon hydride pyrolysis.

UOP LLC RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT, Des Plaines, IL, USA, June 2003 – May 2004 Research Assistant, Exploratory and Fundamentals Department (Contract) Mentor: Mark Krawczyk, PhD Topics: High-Throughput Catalyst Discovery for Octane Enrichment Processes; Bench Scale Evaluation of Polycyclic Aromatic Ring Opening Catalysts for Cetane Enrichment Processes Managed operation and GC data processing for a $1 million high throughput 48 reactor microsystem,

overseeing operations from proof-of-principle to full-scale production. Researched the discovery of new, non-noble metal with octane boosting potential, reforming catalysts for

the use of raising the octane of unusable gas pools. Boosted efficiency from 15% to 95% in 9 months, testing over 600 experimental catalysts monthly. Increased production by developing HYSYS process model for catalytic polycyclic aromatic ring opening,

improving design and enhancing system reliability. Performed set-up and programming of a robotic weighing arm for high throughput weighing analysis. Aided in the design and creation of a Brooks digital smart mass flow controller calibration station.

variable metal solution concentrations during evaporation cycles and temperatures during calcinations. Oversaw plant operation and conducted research for production of mercaptan adsorbents by collecting data
