Polish Christmas Eve

• In Poland, Christmas Eve supper is the most important celebration of the year.

• Polish tradition is twelve traditional courses to be served during the Polish Christmas Eve.

• This number is the symbol of twelve Apostles and represents the twelve months of the year.

Polish Christmas Dish - Herrings in Oil Recipe

Herrings are very popular and they are served at Christmas Eve.

INGREDIENTS

• 8 salt herring fillets

• 2 sliceds onions

• 1/2 cup olive or sunflower oil

• 3 peppercorns

• 1 bay leaf

PREPARATION

1. Soak herring in cold water for at least an hour. If very salty, repeat, changing the water each time. Slice drained herring into bite-size pieces.

2. Place in a jar and cover with oil and spices. Close the jar. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 days before eating

Yummy…

3. Serve with finely chopped onion and lemon.
